Annotations for Discharge Report

I really enjoyed reading your report, and I can't think of anything that needs to be added. You might comment on the atmosphere of the class and if you think it affects learning at all.

I got some good ideas from your report which will help improve my own report. One reminder for your next part of the report: watch out for typing errors. I know I'm no perfectionist, but since these reports will be used in future books they should be as neat as we can make them.

Discharge Report for #3

First of all, I thought your report was well-organized and expressed your ideas very clearly. I agree that this class was good in that it did not generate negative competition between students, and that through activities like dyadic quizzes and group work, we were able to learn more about the course. I also liked how you selected comments from other students to add to your report. These additional comments emphasized your point about how the unique set-up of the class enhanced competence skills. However, I must stress that too many assignments are detrimental to the educational process. It is the quality of the work, not the quantity, that truly counts. I think that one well- thought, serious project about social forces is more valuable than a dozen hastily done efforts.

I am glad that you got so much out of this course, and from your data, it seems that most of the students also benefitted from the community class room. If these students were sincere about their approval of the methods used by Dr. James sad Dr. Gordon, then we all must conclude that this course is extremely valuable, highly educational, and should continue for future generations.

Annotation for Discharge Report

You seem to have had a very good semester in Psychology 222. You seem to have acquired all the knowledge required for community classroom. Your understanding of the terms and concepts are quite sufficient. Your contact with fellow students seem to have had a strong impact on the class, from the information given on the discharge report. There is one thing that you could have stressed on more, and that is in Part III. I think that you could have emphasized more on the teacher and student relation. For a new concept like community classroom, I think that the instructor should be more in tune with his students. But, as a whole, you have a very good discharge report. It is well organized and it seems like you put a lot of effort and time into it.

Discharge Report A

Part I.

In this class, I have obtained and improved such skills ass reading and learning from another students work, communicating to students as well as teachers huddling to solve social problems, understanding lecture material and other related material and incorporating this knowledge into an advanced DFF report, typing, social competence skills which leads to professionalizing oneself, but most of all, witnessing the various social forces which affect my life as well as those around me.

The collective learning approach is an effective method because people learn from each others and they learn together. Also, competitions a factor which may distract a student from learning, is not present here because no one gets graded on their work. Instead, the class as a whole, works together and tries to complete most of the work so that a lot of people can get good grades. As a result of dyadic quizzes, and group quizzes and group work, I have been able to gain more knowledge about social psychology. The Glossary Charts is an invaluable aid in understanding the social forces in our daily round. Singing the forces songs brought more people closer to the charts so that they also can increase their knowledge.

I also have great knowledge of the forces that actually affect me in my daily round. Money thoughts, intimidation and territoriality are just a few of the many forces which I am aware of during daily routines. As taught in this class, Social Psychology touches us in everything we do: in our community's consumerism, in our diet, health, healing, etc. Lastly, I am presently increasing in my knowledge about what a professional student should be like. A professional should be socially competent in many ways.

When this semester's class is over I feel that I will have a lot to show for it because of the amount of knowledge gained and skills obtained. In the future, I will use my competence skills obtained during this semester as well as other skills such as communicating with people (which is necessary in order to live with people), huddling with someone to solve a social problem, and also, using the knowledge of past generations of Psychology 222 and my knowledge obtained from this semester's class to witness various forces which affect mew thereby, enabling me to control them.

As I continue my education, I will use these skills to increase my knowledge about other social forces, to increase my knowledge on my major study and generally, just to be a more wiser and knowledgeable person all around.

Part II.

I discussed my present knowledge of social psychology with three of my classmates. Then I talked to Bart Asato he agreed about the later use of the information obtained in this class. He said that the course deals with the social structure of the living conditions which surrounds us. Therefore, if everything we learn in class is found in everyday activities, then, we will always have some knowledge of social psychology. Marcie Frampton was very positive about the class. She said that the community classroom was effective because there is an uncompetitive atmosphere and everybody works collectively. She made a good point when she contrasted a standard classroom to community classroom. In our class, the students instead of reproducing what is in a textbook, creates his own material which he himself studies. Alan Nagata, on the other hand, was a little negative when evaluating the class. Too many required DFF's, too many projects and, inadequacy of peer annotations, were some of his objections. He, however, condoned the use of quartile teams, the grading system, the mystery plays class managers, use of groups to do work, and guest speakers. He learned overalls that a class need not be competitive to learn, it need not be regimental in nature, and that students can learn by working collectively.

I've talked to other students in class and have experienced mostly positive feedback about the class. From talking to other students in class, I can conclude that the class does help to make people aware of desirable and undesirable forces around us. Moreover, the students learned something not found in any textbook and they enjoyed doing it.

Part III.

To the instructor and class managers: "Let there be improved communication between the two of you in the future so that better student data can be obtained."

To future students: "The work in this class may be plentiful, but, any serious effort you put in will pay off in the future because things you learn in this class may be applied in everyday life, and this is important.

For anyone who reads this report: Community Classroom has an atmosphere which aids in learning . Because there are no exams and no grades given for work, there is no feeling of competition among the students. It is competition which sometimes blocks a students concentration to learn. Also, almost everyone in the class experiences a new thing together when doing assignments. The students, therefore, help each other because everyone is in the sane boat and doing things as a group, The teachers and class managers set a warm atmosphere because they are all willing to do everything they can so that the student may learn as much as he wants about social psychology.
