l.l.a. Sooial Behaviorism- This is a broad term which describes how people act and react in social settings. For example, in Society's Witness (James and Nahl, 1978), there is a description of UH students' reaction to the author's radicalness when he is trying to teach psychology. The professor's methods of teaching was an objection to the students and they reacted accordingly. Intimidation is, naturally, a social behavior. l.l.a.2-Situated Behavior- Behavior in Social Settings- In Social Psychology: Community Building Force (James and Nahl, 1979), they describe situated behavior as: "units of behavior...defined in terms of the setting in which they occur." The intimidation situation shows a typical situated behavior, feeling small when confronting a mob of physically superior individuals.
2.1.a.-Forming and Managing Impressions- At the initial confrontation in the gym, we received stimulus information: the mob of big men staring at us, no words are spoken. Our perceptions on the stimulus was, that big guys are potentially violent and that we could get hurt if they turned on Us. Thus, our impression was, that they were mean individuals having the potential of kicking Us out of the room, at will.
A.2.o.-Idealism and Fellowship- In a community, we learn certain societal and humanitarian traits. Curiosity and inquiry is seen by the football players staring, meanwhile, we felt intimidated, also possibly a certain degree of defensiveness was present in both the football players and us as territoriality came into play.
5.3.c.- Community-Building- This collaborates with our plan to eliminate my intimidating situation. By making friends and feeling relaxed in the gym, intimidation can be greatly decreased.
1. l.b.l.- territoriality. Personal Space and Proxemics Along with the intimidation, there was negative force between them and us which could have been because we crossed into their territory. If it was that their territoriality was being tested, they would take on a defensive shield.
Conclusion: Since my "huddle buddy", Derek Chow, was with me at the time of my intimidation, the solution to the problem was reached with no problem. He both felt the forces during the situation in the gym and could accurately relate to each other when discussing the problem. By analyzing the situation using the Glossary Charts, I realized a possible explanation for the occurring situation. Our presuppositions or premises of football players ( big men; dangerous, etc.) encouraged our feeling of intimidation.
Steps 6 and 7
I did not include the three annotations to the report because I threw them away , however, I did use the annotations, as well as annotations from class managers, to improve my report. The improvements made was the analysis of the intimidating situation using the Glossary Chart subtitles. The happening was an example of the terms. Also, I displayed the paper in a more organized manner so that the reader can quickly understand what I am trying to say.
