What have I learned?...

In Cyberspace, the search engine, is your access into the virtual world of cyberspace. It is your access to learning virtually anything you want. I mean everything and anything, in all aspects that you've never dreamed of, and thought of. It's unsuspecting and surprising. The links take you into other worlds and places, that would normally take you months to research and find. I'm talking about people, and things that are so updated that you wouldn't even know existed. These ideas are based on my own knowledge of what I got out of my own experiences, and with a little help from Dr. James. Again, Dr. James' reports and Dr. Suler's reports respectively, cover the whole picture.

It's amazing to think that the expression, "everything you ever wanted to know is right at your fingertips," has actually become true. To me, the whole internet is the future but, the search engine itself is too good to be true. How is it that a few years ago, things that were not possible to locate are so easy to find. Anyone can use a search engine. Everyone has access to it. You could go to a campus/ the library to use the computer, go to a computer store, just to check it out, and the most latest, go to those 24 hour internet coffee shops. I know of some that offer free classes on how to use the internet. If you look in the newspaper, they've got them advertised all over the place.

This all ties into the Web. People,...meeting people? Okay, that sounds wonderful but, talking to one or more right then and there is almost unbelievable. Don't laugh, but I'm still getting over the FAX/Modem. Now, this whole idea of people and the Web leads us into a new idea that you may find interesting. Again, Dr. James had got me thinking (pretty good huh?), the idea of Dualism. What, never heard of that before? I hope you're not a psychology major! Basically, it's a belief that the mind and body are two separate entities. I learned that in my biopsychology course, but the rest is from Dr. James' discussions.

Where does cyberspace and the Web play a role in all of this? Well, it goes something like this... Once you enter cyberspace, your physical being is infront of the computer and you are typing, clicking the mouse etc., but it is totally separated from where your mind is. This is called, VIRTUAL PRESENCE. Your virtual presence, has nothing to do with your physical being infront of the computer. It is definitely at a whole new level. It is created from your mind, and where you want to be in cyberspace. Remember, there are no physical characteristics associated with this. Also, your virtual presence has nothing to do with where you are geographically, where you stand demographically, and it really doesn't have anything to do with time and place. Only if you choose to that is. There are many choices/options, and you can be free with virtual presence.

Your mind, is in your body, just as the computer is your "physical tool" into virtual presence. With this, you are in total control, and it is an extension of your self/personality, as Dr. James had discussed. Total control of who you want to be, at your own expense. You can be whomever you want to be, as long as you know where you stand, and what your limits are. Dr. Suler calls this, "Regressive Behaviors in Cyberspace." You can read more into this, his paper goes into great depth and detail, so check it out.

My online personality...Hmmm...I don't know, what do you think? It's quite obvious that I like Sanrio stuff, but you know what? Believe it or not, I'm not crazy about it. I think it's cute and I have some here and there Sanrio stuff, but it's not at all what you may think. My writing style, reflects a lot about my online personality. I like to be conversational when I write, so that it's easy to read, and you don't feel like you're reading a texbook. Other than just the obvious, I guess you could say that I'm not a hardcore webbie. I'm a little bit addicted, but I guess it's because this is all so new to me. No, I'm not a hacker or anything.

I'm not into being too personal online, yet, I don't think that I would be any different than who I really am. Also, I hate waiting! I feel like I've spent half of my lifetime waiting. Now, with this internet stuff, I've go myself waiting for something to download! Gosh, I don't know what else to say. I suppose it's because I haven't really found my online personality? I've only been online for maybe 4 months total. Hopefully, I'll have more to say into the weeks to come, but I can tell you this much, I'm not a freak.
