95. Tom: Whole wheat, sprouted.

96. C: I don't think its sprouted.

(Food Still being passed)

97. Doris: (To Jeff) Okay, we're all waiting. (Laughs) (Referring to Jeff's saying of g grace).

98. Doris: Can I have butter? (All laugh) . . . While we're waiting?

(Tom passes the butter to Doris)

99. Jeff: I have to think of something good.

100. Doris: (jokingly) Well, it better be good.

101. Christy: Get inspired.

(Doris gets up from table to get some utensils)

(Tom tries to detach plate from sauce dish which is attached. Laughs).

l02. Christy: You went through the same thing last time you tried.

103. Tom: Oh, yeah.

104. Christy: It's going to be hard to mix this. (Referring to the salad).

105. Tom: Just eat it.

106. Jeff: Okay, is everybody ready?

107. All: Ready.

108. Jeff: Dear Lord, bless this food . . . inaudible)...amen.

(The grace is murmured very fast and low, almost inaudible).

109. Jeff: I used to have these memorized, three or four of them --a repertoire. (snaps fingers, laughs).

110. Doris: Everytime we have dinner up there, his grandmother says that.

(Laughs).

111. Tom: Weeoo

112. Jeff: (To Christy) Let me fill your cup.

114. Christy: No, we just went to Safeway.

(Murmurs of appreciation of the food).

115. Christy: (To Tom, who is eating with abandon) You must be hungry, eh? (Laughs).

114. Doris: After work today some guy brought in raw octopus.

115. Christy: Ooh, did you actually eat it?

116. Jeff: Sure did. It's good.

117. Christy: Really?

118. Tom: Raw octopus? Larry, you remember Larry? We went out diving, and he brought up one, bit the eyes out, and tarted eating it. (Laughs).

119. Christy: Ugh

120. Doris: Ugh

121. Tom: Raw. (Laughs) Guess I shouldn1ttalk about it.

122. Christy: Not while we're eating.

123. Christy: (To Jeff) Do you eat Opihi?

124. Jeff: Yeah.

125. Christy: Around here, or something?

126. Jeff: Usually from Kauai.

127. Christy: From your friends?

128. Tom: There are a lot on Molokai, too.

129. Jeff: Molokai and. . not Kalalau, it1s just kind of facing the ocean

130. Christy: I'd like to go camping sometime.

I told you about when we went to Waianapanapa a long time ago?

131. Doris: Umm hmm

132. Christy: It was so nice. Bill went down an(1 caught a fish for dinner. We should do that sometime.

133. Doris: Jeff has classes on Saturday.

134. Christy: Not forever?

(Pause)

135. Christy: Forever??

(Laugher)

136. Jeff: Yup. Forevermore.

(Laughter)

137. Tom: Bruce can fly over there for the weekend round trip for thirteen dollars.

138. Doris: In a small plane?

(Bill nods)

139. Doris: Ooh. (In dismay).

(Doris and Christy laugh)

140. Doris: I don't like small planes.

141. Tom: Bruce is a good pilot.

l42. Doris: Yeah, that's what they all told me.

(Laugher)

143. Christy: (Laughs) That's what they all say.

144. Tom: He really is.

145. Doris: Remember I told you about that day? Going up and down, up and down. I was sick, I was sick that whole day. First I got airsick then I got carsick. Driving from the airport to the house. (Laughs) I really did. It never used to be that bad. When I was little, I used to go on the biggest rides and the fastest roller coasters. You know, those loopety~loop things, around and round.

146. Christy: I could never stand them. I used to cry.

147. Doris: I used to go on Qem twice in a row. And in the roller coaster, I used to sit in the front seat. You know Pallisades, did you ever go to Palisades Park?

148. Christy: Yeah.

149. Doris: Remember that roller coaster there? That huge thing? I used to go on that.

150. Christy: I remember looking at it, butl never went on it.

151. Doris: (Laughs) Yeah. They have the biggest roller coaster I have ever seen.

152. Christy: I could never stand them at all.

153. Doris: I don't think I could go on them anymore.

154. Jeff: You re grown up and mature now. (Teasingly).

155. Christy: So the small planes just don't make it, eh?

156. Doris: I know it's cheap, but I wouldn't go on the last one.

157. Tom: Royal Hawaiian's really good. They're smooth, got twin engines.

158. Doris: They're bigger planes, right?

159. Doris: They're big, hold about eight people.

160. Phllis: Oh, they're still not big enough.

161. Tom: But they don't bounce around, they're stable planes.

162. Jeff: Oh yeah, thirteen dollars?

163. Tom: With Bruce it'd be thirteen dollars, round trip. It's cheap.

164. Jeff: (To Doris) Why don't we do that? Thirteen dollars!

165. Doris: (agiatated) That's what I did last time! I flew over there and wound up taking Aloha Airlines back. When I came back, I said I'd never do it again.

166. Jeff: Aww. I think it'd be fun.

167. Tom: Bruce and I have gone over several times for the weekend. Over there on Saturday, land in Hana, hike over toWaianapanapa, tool around in the caves over there, go to the beach, go snorkeling...

168. Jeff: That'd be fun.

169. Tom: Go pick some mushrooms, then come back late in the evening.

170. Doris: We were thinking about camping last night, and the first weekend we could go is Memorial Day weekend. I could go before that. (Laughs)

171. Jeff: (Grimaces) Aww. (laughs)

172. Doris: (Laughs) My schedule is open. I usually just stay here every day. (Pause) Memorial Day weekend. We'd hike up in the mountains, and stay by ourselves. We,'d have Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

173. Christy: That's in May, isn't it?

174. Doris: Yes. What we were worried about is that he has school in the morning so we couldn't leave until the afternoon.

175. Christy: Oh.

176. Tom: That's alright.

177. Christy: That's cool. You'd have Saturday night, Sunday, Monday -- a long night, I mean a long weekend.

178. Tom: Makaha is nice.

179. Christy: Yeah, you could come to Makaha.

180. Doris: I d like to do it. How about you? (To Jeff)

181. Tom: Do some surfing.

182. Doris: After you get out of work, after school.

183. Jeff: Nah, I'd rather camp on another island.

(Pause)

184. Doris: This salad is so delicious.

185. Jeff: This wine is pretty good, too.

186. Tom: We should've gotten two bottles.

187. Christy: One is enough.

188. Doris: (Laughs) We could take it with us when we go out tonight, take it in the car. (Laughs)

189. Christy: Cruise around.

190. Doris: Cruise around.

191. Christy: Brown bag it.

192. Doris: (Laughs) Go up to Tantalus and get drunk.

193. Christy: With Cold Duck, I don't know, it doesn't quite fit in!

(Pause).

194. Christy: Yeah, that was fun yesterday doing that demonstration. We were outside the governor's office and started chanting.

195. Doris: Did you see any of those people who were up there? At the festival?

196. Christy: Yeah there were some. At the festival? I had to leave early, unfortunately.

197. Jeff What's the Governor's stand on that? ( Referring to the

Waiahole-Waikane issue.)

198. Christy: That's a good question! They can be evicted March 1. He wouldn't say if they'll bring in the National Guard or not. It's on Tuesday, so they're trying to meet with him, find out what's happening - what are you going to do? He said, "Oh, I'm working on a plan" that he can't tell them yet. You know, that's terrible, that's a terrible thing to do.

199. Jeff: Well, we were talking to him on Wednesday.

200. Doris: Did you talk to him about that?

201. Jeff: For a good half hour. we asked him about agricultural land, you know we'd like to work on it. For instance, he said, the Waiahole Waikane. .
