Organization

The Generational Curriculum is considered a natural superdocument, rather than an artificial document. What makes this true is the fact that this site is created by a cybercommunity. Our community is headed by a "manager", our instructor, Dr. Leon James. He created college courses in which students enrolled since a couple of years ago. Within each generation of students, much social and psychological exchanges are made. Future generations learn from prior generations and integrate themselves together through links. Although direct contact is not made between generations, generations have the ability to communicate via e-mail. Each generation contributes to this natural expanding site.

It is evident that this site is expanding due to its organization. At the Generational Curriculum Index page, one could discover how it is organized from generation one to generation four. This is a implication that there are more generations to come. The fact that there is a site left for us (generation four) on the page implies that the general curriculum is expanding. We will fill the sites left for us with our reports, and leave loose ends so that generation five can continue expanding. In fact, we are already anticipating the next generation in Report #5. Next term's class, generation five, will write their reports and integrate them to the generational curriculum, then generation six, and so on.

There are many different ways one could create a "introduction", in integrating a site. First of all there are tour guides. This is basically a site where one is forced through a series of sites, like a tourist is forced to visit various places on a tour bus. Our instructor provided Tour Guides in introducing his site. In the tour guide, all one has to do is click on the continue button to go to the next tour site. Personally, I did not like the tour guide because I was not able to control where I was going. But, looking at a visitors perspective, a tour guide seems like a winner. Secondly, there are Indexes. Indexes just lists all of the available topics, and link to them. I find these the easiest means for searching for a topic. They are also the easiest to employ. Our instructor includes an Index within his home page. From a students perspective, an index is the best choice. In addition, there are search engines. An example of a search engine on a home page would be at Polk Audio's web page. As a person types out the key word that they are looking for, and the search engine searches for all possible sites for that particular topic. I think that this concept is pretty neat, but it would be difficult to employ for a home page. CGI Maps are also useful in integrating a site. CGI Maps essentially map out an entire area. When one's mouse is pointed at a particular location on the map, the bottom of the screen will expose its location. Clicking on the particular spot on the map will send one to the new site. An example of a CGI map is at the Virtual Tourist location. At this site, the map of the world is an example of a CGI map. Notice that when you skim your pointer across the map, the number on the bottom is constantly changing.

Given all of these choices, I would most likely choose an index in integrating a site. They are simple and easy to understand. Best of all, they are the easiest to create.

Structure

Dr. James's Generational Curriculum incorporates all of his students pages, generation after generation. It is all of his students together that make this site unique. Together we make up a learning cybercommunity. First of all, we learn from each other during class. Hints and ideas are given to improve our reports. In addition, we try to learn from past generations, through their reports. We then expand the site, trying to create picture perfect reports. Besides that, we allow others, outside our community, to participate in this interactive learning through our various databases. We link to each others pages and to past generations in explaining ourselves. In addition, we link to sites outside our community in giving examples. Generation after generation, we flow with improved technology, incorperating and taking advantage of it, to make good progress even better. Through it all, we expand the knowledge of cyber psychology, spiritual psychology and traffic psychology, and share it with the world. At the end, we will leave open ends and problems for the next generation to solve. To obtain a detailed explanation of the structure go to Dr. James's statement page and his cybercommunity page.

Since we are a learning community, it brings great benefit in being the fourth and latest generation. First of all, our instructor is greatly educated from the past generations. By now, he probobly knows what works and what doesn't, and hopefully he will be able to steer us in the right direction. During the first couple generations, he probably had to do everything by trial and error. Being the latest generation, we are also able to learn directly from past generations. Past generations explained their experiences as well as their difficulties in their reports. Through this, we were able to learn and hopefully avoid the same mistakes.

Technology has improved greatly since the first generation. In fact technology has improved significantly since the third generation. Improved technology allowed this generation to travel on improved browsers such as Netscape 3.0 and Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0. These browsers support better design capabilities and greater searching power. In addition, technology has allowed us access to faster modems and computers. It must have been dreadful working with a 9600 modem, LINX and low powered computer's. Popularity of the Internet has attracted more users and information on the WEB. This gave us access to more information than previous generations. In addition, technology has allowed improved graphics, animated gifs and backgrounds. Next generation is sure to benefit greater from technology and past generations.
