Search Engines
AltaVista
My personal favorite. Powered by Digital, AltaVista gives
a 1 to 2 day submission to database turnaround. AltaVista
also powers Yahoo and C|Net's Search.com.

Excite
Also a engine that has relatively quick turnaround when
you submit a site. A site that I created was listed here
second (after AltaVista) when I submitted it. Big
database here as well.

HotBot
I just started using HotBot and I am starting to love it.
It appears to feed me back more information than any other
engine that I have tried. This engine is powered by
Inktomi and is also linked to HotWired (the online 'zine
version of WIRED magazine). At "presstime," HotBot had 54
million documents in its database. The site that I made
was listed here (even though I did not submit it).

Infoseek
Another necessary site to get your page listed on. This
used to be Netscape's primary search device when you
clicked on "Net Search". Cool because sites are ranked by
percentage (not always correct though).

Ultra Infoseek
Ultra Infoseek (Ultraseek) is pretty much the same as
Infoseek. There is one noticeable difference though.
They used to have, and is working to get functional
again), a automatic database submission device, which
means that as soon as you submit your site, it will be
ready for searching.

Lycos
Lycos sites can be searched as "all sites" (that relate to
the search string), "related sites," "pictures,"
and/or "sounds." Pretty cool if you are searching just
for a rare pictures of Madonna that are a
bit risque (hehe!).

Magellen
Home of the popular ranking system of "3-star," 4-star,"
etc sites. Many people are proud to be chosen and love to
flaunt the Magellan Icon on their site as a winner
(including me!).

Search.com
Another search "engine" powered by AltaVista. Having
connections to the popular C|Net (cnet.com, news.com,
gamecenter.com, download.com, shareware.com), going to
this site can help you access info on one of the many
search engines online (without having to go to each one
individually).

Yahoo
Probably one of the more popular search engines, Yahoo is
designed Heirarchtical for simpler nevigation.
