What's A driving Personality Makeover?
- A driving personality makeover, what is it? Well let's take a look at
the specific terms. The
first one "a driving personality" implies that there is a specific entity called a "driving personality".
This can be likened to phone personality, a business personality, or a weekend personality. It's a
loose term of description used to describe one's personality functioning in a specific environment.
The same way we have different personality functionings (behaviors) for funerals, weddings and
the office, we have them for driving as well.

- The second term "makeover" implies a change of shift in the given
driving personality. The
same way a movie actor or actress has a make-over before going on camera. When we put all
these terms together, we get a process that is designed to effect changes in the driving habits
and actions of individuals. The question is though, why make changes. The logical answer is that
there is a probelem that needs to be fixed.

- Everyone needs to improve on their driving. They might not admit it,
but the fact that there
are 50,000 deaths and three million driving related injuries year after year makes the point clear.
The best way not to cause an accident is to learn to avoid them until accident avoidance becomes
habitual. Like my Dad always tells me, "Good Habits take time and practice everyday, bad ones
just creep in over night."

- In a driving personality makeover the person doing the makeover self
witnesses his or her actions subjectively. This allows the person to
dissern the fundamental aspects involved in there driving behavior. This
subjectification of the situations which the driver goes through gives
the person the ability to recognize the three crucial domains involved.
Namely the affective, cognative and sensory-motor. This is a very
powerful tool because the identification of the fundamental problem makes
it possible for changes to be made the will effectively modify a targeted
behavior. The changes implimented from a sujective position such as this
don't just mask the targeted behavior , they modify it. Over time the
constant modifications to behavior accumilate makeing new modifications
more easily implimented. This produces A higher level of exisistance for
the person implimenting these changes and brings the into a more
harmonius and spiritual state of being. Not to mention all the stress
and anger that is avoided.

- Another one of the ways in which a driving personality makeover allows
us to create changes in our
lives is through cognative dissonance. By making us consciously focus on what we're doing
wrong, cognitive dissonance provides motivation for bringing our actions in line with what we
know to be the right choice. Cognitive dissonance motivates efforts to reduce in consistancy in
our thoughts and actions. I also think that a driving personality makeover helps create changes by
focusing on individual behavior and thus forces us to deal with Actor-observer bias. Actor-observer bias is our tendency to infer external causes for our own behavior and internal causes for
others' behavior.
