Topic Focus

(S 1.) Topic Focus is a register modality mechanism, which suggests that its discussion will relate the way in which ES – Outlines contract into topic glossaries, on the one hand, with topic function, on the other, Since the latter relates display repertoire to the management of transactions, the issues involved in the discussion on topic focus can be projected as follows:

(a) What constitutes the setting features of a social event? This will be discussed in conjunction with the register modality operation of setting coordinates (cf. graphing);

(b)What are the parameters of topic focus selectivity? This will be discussed in conjunction with the recognition of contention points and the latification of their standardized .

(c) How do participants use topic focus mechanisms so as to serve their pragmatic involvements in a social event? This will be discussed in conjunction with the establishment of reputation or the reconstruction of an individual biographical record; these define the parameters or dimensions of topic focus dynamics: cf. role type, assertion type, modulation type.

(d) How do participants ratify each other’s topic focus selection displays? This will be discussed in conjunction with our proposal for The Scientific Bible – the cataloguing activities of the intellectual ruling class revealed through ethnosemantic probes into the specialized topic domains of the North American Register (cf. the New Three R’s --- Reciprocally Ratifiable Recognitions, our proposal for the reorganization of the School Curriculum into instructional topic glossaries to replace the current topic nominals created haphazardly by courses, curricula, and textbooks).

(S 2.) A social event is specifiable as a natural system fully defined by its ehnosemantic postulates. The formal correspondence in geometry for the reification of social event is given by the mathematical operation of graphing a space. Topic Domains are fragmented labeled intersections that specify the organizational structure of topic nominals and their derivation (see Notes on Display Repertoire). Topic nominals specify the derivation of situated assertions or comments contributed by participants in a particular social event. The comment is the basic unit of display repertoire. Thus, the specification of the natural phenomenon of a social event amounts to the derivation of the interactional displays that constitute its visible, ratifiable, and defining parameters.

The minimal sufficient set of defining parameters that reify a social event can be listed as follows:

(1) The boundary markers that isolate the phenomenon of a singular social event; these are called setting coordinates.

(2) The localization of contention points through the operation of standardized meta-topical mechanisms called assertion and argument operators.

(3) The resolution of contention points through ritualized ratification procedures (cf. transactional remedy) that characterize ethnicity or particular group membership; the resolution of contention points is specified formally by the derivation of topic nominals, cf. topic intersection operator: see Notes on Display Repertoire).

(4) The strategic modulation of paraphrastic sets of functionally equivalent topic nominals, i.e. style of display modulation; (allows the derivation of role type and transactional engineering).

(5) The specification of a ritualized consensual pre-established signaling system for the identification of reciprocally ratifiable recognitions – the Three R’s. The Three R’s constitute the pool of display repertoire individually acquired by participants (cf. standardization, socialization, enculturation, group assimilation, socio-function). The Three R’s allow the derivation of singular records as consensually validated documentary evidence of the actuality or reality of the social event (cf. memory, identity, biography, evidence, fact, episode, truth value, authenticity).

In summary, then, the 5 defining parameters of a social event are:

    1. the setting coordinates (or background context)
    2. the contention points (or arguments)
    3. the resolutions (or transactional moves)
    4. the style of display (or role type)
    5. the record (deictic topic nominals)

Each of these will now be discussed in turn.

(S 3.) Setting coordinates belong to the class of forman objects of which other members include arguments, role types, topic domains, themes, records; these are called pragmatic contraction sets and are empirically derivable through specification of interactional contingencies displayed by participants in a particular ethnic membership configuration (or social group). Thus, though pragmatic contraction sets are derivationally open (and are, therefore, formally alike to neologic topic nominals), they behave situationally in restricted dimensions (and are, therefore, functionally alike to deictic topic nominals and meta-topical elements – which are fixed or closed). Therefore the setting coordinates delimiting a social event are pragmatically ordered into a list of precedence called the circle normalcy list.

The specific identification of such precedence lists is accomplished by members of a group through assimilation contingencies governed by pragmatic considerations (cf. daily round, see Notes on Constitutive Exchanges). These group assimilation procedures are external setting coordinates for the social event. The derivation of the external setting coordinates is accomplished by enlarging the delimitations of the original social event to include them. Since this is an iterative process, it can be appreciated that setting coordinates form ordered interlocking matrices which in their aggregate characterize cultural locals (or milieus, atmospheres, spaces). Diagramatically, we have the following expressions:

(i)

Delimitation of Setting Setting

Singular Social = Internal + External

Event Coordinates Coordinates

(ii)

Internal = Ratifiable = Normalcy

(iii)

Social Event

[S 4] Cultural locales are empirically derived clusters of setting coordinates. They are identified by labeled deictic topic nominals.

Consider this list:

Record of Event Locale of Event

Hurting my toe (falling in the bathtub)

Thinking about the roast (left in the oven)

Returning the book (to the library)

Falling in love (with Joan)

Telling the story (of the Wandering Jew)

Returning home (unexpectedly)

Experiencing it (in my youth)

Cultural Revolution (in China)

etc. etc.

Deriving Setting Argument Setting

a Social Event Coordinates Coordinates

The rationale for the equivalencies in expressions specified on the accompanying chart and involving topic nominals, complements, assertions, and arguments, are fully given elsewhere (see Notes on Display Repertoire).

The implications of the chart will now be elaborated.

[S 5] Expression (viii) reveals that the operation of singular reference (viz. deriving a record for a social event) is accomplished by the argument, which is the smallest independent unit of display repertoire (cf. transaction, exchange, paragraph, title; see Notes on Display Repertoire). Setting internal coordinates amounts to derivation of comment nominal or record of event. Setting external coordinates amounts to derivation of comment complement or locale of event. Therefore, situated assertions or comments, that are ratified by participants as singular references, constitute a display record in the form of a topic nominal, whose intersecting derivation specifies the internal setting coordinates of the event recorded and referred to. This topic nominal is related to a topic complement, called the comment complement through an argument operator. The derivation of this topic complement amounts to a specification of external setting coordinates or locale of the event. Singular references (or the derivation of a record of event) is related to contention points, the second defining parameter of social events. This will now be elaborated.

[S6] There is a formal relationship between topic intersection operators and the derivation of contention points in a cultural locale. A cultural locale is specified by setting coordinates. Setting coordinates are derived topic nominals. The structure of topic nominals is specified by the operation of topic intersection operators. (Topic intersection operators belong to the class of objects called meta-topical elements, which also include assertion operators, argument operators, and anchor concepts. Topic intersection operators are fixed in form and number (cf. function words and morphophonemic elements). What is the motivation for topic intersection?

The solution we propose is the labeling of the intersection between setting coordinates as the contention point. The contention point is thus the origin of situated assertions. In other words, we can say that the motivation for topic intersection is to raise contention points. The minimal structure of a contention point is defined as the single social event, and is the minimal unit of cultural behavior (cf. recognition).

Diagramatically:

Internal THE TOPOLOGY

Setting OF SITUATED

Coordinate DISPLAYS (i.e. EVENTS)

Contention Point External Setting Coordinate

In other words, setting the internal coordinates (i.e., recognizing or noticing something; making a record of a social event) is intersected by setting the external coordinates (i.e. contextualizing it; commenting; arguing; intersecting topic nominals; locale of event) at a point, the contention point, which defines the intersection as a situated display:

Contention = Recognition + Reconstruction

The topology of situated displays specifies the pragmatic contracted sets of contention points that characterize the topical dimensionality of ethnic groups (color, sophistication, cultural premises, richness). It allows the derivation of records of cultural behavior:

THE TOPOLOGY

Comment OF SITUATED

Nominal ARGUMENTS (i.e. RECORDS)

Operator Comment Complement

In other words, deriving a comment nominal (i.e. making a singular reference) is intersected by the comment complement (i.e. relating it to the locale; contextualizing it) at a point, the argument operator which defines the interaction as a situated argument or record:

Record = Singular + Specification

Reference of locale

The topology of situated arguments specifies the pragmatic contracted sets of arguments that characterize the topical dimensionality of role type. It allows the derivation of individual comments:

THE TOPOLOGY OF

Topic SITUATED ASSERTIONS

Nominal (i.e. COMMENTS)

Topic

Intersection

Operator Topic Complement

In other words, deriving a topic nominal (i.e. fragmentint minimal topic nominals or anchor concepts) is intersected again by the topic complement (i.e. another topic fragment to which it is related functionally by the topic intersection operator --- which is the minimal definition of making a situated assertion or comment. The topology of situated assertions specifies the pragmatic contracted set of topic intersection operators that characterize the singular references of an individual. It allows the derivation of topic focus change, which amounts to a description of an event or social account. (An account is defined as the reconstruction of a social event. See Notes on Practical Understanding).

COLOR CODING ROUTINE

PROGRAM

Dr. Leon James

(c) 1975

1.

BEGIN PROGRAM

  1. This is a program for practicing an ethnosemantic routine.
  2. This particular routine is called "color coding Dictionary entries" and its mastery allows the production of first level glossaries.

2.

  1. "Color Coding" fefers to the act of assigning one of six colors to a word.
  2. The six colors are given by this routine and are as follows:

White Yellow Green

Blue Brown Black

3.

  1. According to the Color coding routine described by this program, any word in a dictionary can be assigned one of the six colors specified. The colors are mnemonic devices to facilitate recall and allow standardization of the routine.

4.

  1. Standardization of ethnosemantic routines, and their practice, is a prerequisite for the methodological skills needed in the production and investigation of glossaries.
  2. First level glossaries are produced algorythmically by the color coding routine.

5.

  1. The six colors of the color coding routine are arranged in an array that remains fixed:

White Yellow Green Blue Brown Black

Words Words Words Words Words Words

W Y G BU BR BL

Words Words Words Words Words Words

Words Words Words Words Words Words

6.

  1. The routine requires easy acessibility to a pre-defined grid of 1,000 words called the master chart. Committing it to memory is required and can be achieved in a matter of a few hours of study. Finishing this program guarantees success.

7.

  1. First level glossaries serve to indexicalize arguments of derivation. In other words, they show how one idea or notion can be related to another in order to produce an array that represents a natural etnosemantic progression. Such progressions represent logical derivations that underlie correct assertions and understanding. In other words, first level glossaries produced by this color coding routine are used to produce logical arguments--- hence, the understanding of reasoning.

8.

  1. A natural progression can be illustrated to show its use. Consider the following array of color coded words:

White Yellow Green Blue Brown Black

One Two Three Four Five Six

Point Angle Triangle Square Pentagon Hexagon

Single Dyad Triad Quadratic Star Jewish Star

Try making a rationale for these arrays.

9.

  1. A progression deals with generative arrays of items in a determined sequence. Consider the following color coded arrays, and try making a rationale for them:

White Yellow Green Blue Brown Black

Points Linking Intersecting Reifying Applying Establishing

Individual Associate Trans-Form Compose Frame Validate

10.

  1. Providing rationales for proposed arrays is a necessary step in practicing the color coding routine. It is common to experience both "apt successes" and "poor or incomplete rationalizations." Practice quickly leads to more and more rationales that are felt to be quite apt, fitting, logical, illuminating, surprising, and sometimes, deeply clarifying.

11.

  1. As a mnemonic device, consider the following titles for the six colors of this system:

White Yellow Green Blue Brown Black

Stage Stage Stage Stage Stage Stage

Read: "white stage equals nominative phase", "blue stage equals dramatizing phase", and so on. These will be defined on the next six cards.

12.

  1. This card defines the nominative phase or white stage. This is the first column in the color coding system. Mnemonic devices for white are included in the following sequence made up of capitalized words each of whom receive the white color code: WHITE is FIRST: it is the stage of NOMINATIONS for the ORIGINAL LABELS, or MARKERS; its PERSPECTIVE ORIGINATES, INSTNTIATES, CONCRETIZES, ACTUALIZES, IDNTIFIES, ISOLATES, PARTICULARIZES, INDIVIDUATES, TITLES, NAMES.

13.

  1. This card defines the ASSOCIATIVE phase or YELLOW stage. YELLOW is SECOND; it LINKS one to ANOTHER; it ASSOCIATES individuals to BUILD CONFIGURATIONS and STRUCTURES and RELATIONSHIPS that form GROUPS, MEMBERS, ORDERS, CLASSES STATUS, POSITION, PLACE, and ASSIGNS DIRECTIONS, NOTES CONTINGENCIES, EVOKES CONCEPTUALIZATIONS.

14.

  1. This card defines the TAXONOMIC PHASE or GREEN stage. GREEN is GO and MOTION; it INTERSECTS what has been associated forming a new DIMENSION, allowing new EMBEDDINGS and HIERARCHIES that allow the creation of SYSTEMS or DYNAMICS which yields FUNCTION; FUNCTIONALITY is involved in MEANING, SIGNIFICANCE, REPRESENTATION, REFERAL, TRANSFORMATION, DISPLACEMENT, INTELLECTUALIZINGS, INTERESTS and CONSCIOUSNESS are the GREENING or ENERGIZING features of TAXONOMIC compilations of KNOWLEDGE in ENCYCLOPEDIAS.

15.

  1. This card defines the DRAMATIZING phase or BLUE stage: BLUE is FEELING the BLUES, SINGING, being INVOLVED in RITUALS, being WISE and ANALYZING and SYNTHESIZING SPACES; COMPOSING ARGUMENTS and REIFYING IMAGININGS, BELIEVING them, having OPINIONS, ATTITUDES, HABITS, EMOTIONS, being INTELLIGENT, SKILLED, PROLIFERATING, DELEGATING POWER, making THESAURUSES.

16.

  1. This card defines the KEYING phase or BROWN stage: BROWN CERTIFIES EXPERTISE and NECESSITATES PARADOX; it is the stage of SOLUTIONS, PRESCRIPTIONS, and ENGINEERING; in includes PERSONALITY, MATURITY, and CREATIVITY in STYLE and in MODULATION; SOPHISTICATION and REFINEMENT STAGE SOLUTIONS to PERSONAL ADEQUACY and REASSERTS SURVIVAL CONCERNS such as MANAGING SCHEDULE, MAINTAINING PREPAREDNESS, GRAPH STRATEGICS, SURRENDER to AESTHETICS, CHOREOGRAPH EVOLUTIONARY THEMES.

17.

  1. This card defines the RESOLUTION phase or BLACK stage: BLACK VALIDATES and ESTABLISHES REALITY, EVENT, ACTUALITY, UNIT, RESOLUTION: it UNDERSTANDS the ENACTMENT of MYTH, JUSTIFIES DESTINY, EMBELLISHES GREATNESS; DEMONSTRATES, INTEGRATES, RECONSTRUCTS, REDEFINES EVERYTHING; BLACK is it!

18.

  1. Practice reciting the mnemonic devices given, trying to commit them to memory. Write them down on cards.
  2. Practice making up new arrays using the color coded words already presented (e.g. Green: Function represents meaning in intellectualizing systems of consciousness, versus consciousness is an intellectualizing system that functions to represent...(meanings and interests that intersect embedded hierarchical dynamic systems...)(that function to transform...) etc.,etc. Do this for all six colors.

19.

  1. At the completion of this program, you will be able to produce open classes of limitness arrays as a matter of routine competence.
  2. You will notice even before then the frequency with which it is common to experience new insights while examining in detail the arrays one produces algorithmically and automatically using this routine. Hence, we can dub it quite appropriately as "The autodidactics of understanding."

20.

  1. Consider these two pure assertions:

BLACKRESOLUTION phase:

the ENACTMENT of MYTH ESTABLISHES ACTUALITY (Pure means all words are of the same color.)

BROWN- KEYING phrase:

the ENGINEERING of PRESCRIBED SOLUTIONS CERTIFIES EXPERTISE.

Note that assertions can be constructed by making new combined arrays out of the partial arrays of the partial arrays of pure sequences: e.g.

BLACK and BROWN MIXED ARRAY: the ENGINEERING of ENACTMENT PRESCRIBE SOLUTIONS THAT ESTABLISH the ACTUALITY OF MYTH: or: MYTH CERTIFIES ENACTMENTS as ENGINEERING SOLUTIONS to ACTUALITY: ETC. ETC.

21.

  1. Consider variations that might be produced by constructing mixed arrays of the following segment of the Master Chart: (see following chart)

White Yellow Green Blue Brown Black

Nominative Associative Taxonomic Dramatizing Keying Resolution

Culture Ethnicity Ideology Feeling Personality Biographical

22.

  1. Some examples of mixed and PURE ARRAYS CONSTRUCTED ALGORYTHMICALLY FROM THE CHART SEGMENT PRESENTED ON THE PREVIOUS CARD:
  1. Culture socializes standards.
  2. Enculturation controls dramatizing.
  3. Ideology involves the management of feelings.
  4. Ritualizing keys reconctructions.
  5. Personality is the pragmatic management of biographical etc. etc.

23.

  1. The next six cards contain "Color Wisdom", which is to say, that they are arrays of words of the same color arranged in mnemonic clumps for easier recall. Recite them out loud as you reflect upon the nature, quality, feel, or coloration of the WORDS in the arrays.

24.

  1. BLACK WISDOM: PART I

25.

  1. BROWN WISDOM: PART I

26.

  1. BLUE WISDOM: PART I

27.

  1. GREEN WISDOM: PART 1

28.

  1. YELLOW WISDOM: PART 1

29.

  1. WHITE WISDOM: PART 1

30

  1. Practice the use of color coding by constructing algorithmycally new mixed arrays:

e.g. obnoxious information prescribes persistent enactments to metaphysical questions about survival; the function of literacy is the management of institutional programs of regimentation and standardization through the control of the channeling modalities of ordinary daily schedules and enactments.

31.

  1. Practice color coded transpositions by deletion and substitution within color slots: e.g.

GREEN BLUE

Function Ritual

Dynamics Wisdom

the Movement of Feeling

Control Singing

Meaning Arguments

THUS: THE FUNCTION OF WISDOM versus, the CONTROL of WISDOM, versus the KNOWLEDGE OF WISDOM; or: the DYNAMICS OF FEELING versus the MOVEMENT OF INVOLVEMENT versus the MEANING OF SINGING, ETC. ETC.

32.

  1. Note the multiplicity of the algorithms that produce pure and mixed arrays of any desired complexity:

WHITE YELLOW BROWN

Information Regiments Programs

Originality Standardizes Derivations

Legitimization Relates to Derivations

Inspiration Structures Strategics

Curiosity Contrasts Paradox

Visibility Circumscribes Certification

Individual Contacts Reassertion

33.

  1. Examples of full color transpositions constructed from the chart segments presented on the previous two cards can be produced algorithmycally: e.g.

INFORMATION REGIMENTS PROGRAMS that CONTROL INVOLVEMENTS versus CURIOSITY STRUCTURES PARADOXES THAT MOVE ARGUMENTS versus CURIOSITY STRUCTURES PARADOXES that MOVE ARGUMENTS versus VISIBILITY CIRCUMSRIBES STRATEGICS THAT FUNCTIONS AS RITUAL. ETC. ETC.

34.

  1. At this point, you should be able to do the following two types of activities with some comfort and facility:
  1. Recognize the color code of most of the words on the six color wisdom cards (about 600 words).
  2. Enumerate from memory about fifty words from each color.

If these two tasks are not yet under your belt you need to take a few minutes or a few hours to practice them. After that, go on to the next card.

35.

  1. Now test yourself to see how easily you can construct arrays of color coded words according to specified criteria: e.g.
  1. Construct an array of five color coded words (do not count the filler words) corresponding to the following sequence:
  2. [Y + W + BK + W + W]

  3. Construct arrays in transposed and reversed sequences: e.g.

Original Transposed

[BK + BU + Y} [BK2 + BU2 + Y2]

Reversed Mixed/Transformed

[Y + BU + BK] [BU2 + W1 + W2]

PRACTICE BY MAKING UP MORE EXERCISES OF THIS NATURE.

36.

  1. This card begins the second half of this program. Congratulations for completing the first half. At this point, you have acquired and interesting skill that will come in handy, one way or another: You can astound your friends with color code talk, at the very least! – or computerize the chart words and you can occupy yourself for a long time, with making up new ways of making up new types of arrays, or color code the dictionary you own, or watch with amazement the monkey typewriter legend come true as you produce gems of wisdom in a few hours of ethnosemantic juggling!

37.

  1. You can call it the autodidactics of understanding or the method of raising awareness or the glass beadgame! But basically it is most useful as a tool for ethnosemantic investigations of the nature and character of cultural space and socialized reifications, viz. the specification of the routine accomplishments of the daily round: How setttings originate contention points that participants reciprocally ratify through coordinating their displays thus reifying ethnic dramas called life themes and biographies.

38.

  1. This card begins the practicings provided for to complete the program of routinizing color coding skills for ethnosemantic investigations.
  2. Consider the following segment of the master chart:

WHITE YELLOW

Nominative Associative

Point Line

Form Structure

Gravity Density

Birth Enculturation

Labeling Linking

39.

  1. The arrangement of corresponding locations on the master chart allows the construction of geometric arrays. Thus, according to the chart segment on the previous card, we derive that:
  2. NOMINATIVE = LABELING =

    ASSOCIATIVE LINKING

    FORM = WHITE

    STRUCTURE YELLOW ETC. ETC.

  3. You may read these as follows:

Nominative is to associative as labeling is to linking or as white is to black, etc.

40.

  1. Consider the following full arrays of segments of the chart:

WHITE YELLOW GREEN BLUE BROWN BLACK

Form Structure Function Substance Modality Event

Shape Dimension Dynamics Tactics Strategics Pragmatics

Markers Features Fixed Open Mappings Readings

Functions Sets

Nominative Associative Taxonomic Dramatizing Keying Resolution

Labeling Linking Intersecting Predicating Paraphrasing Reconsructing

41.

  1. In looking at chart arrays, it is useful to allow the eyes to run in all directions at first, stopping to consider points of attraction to you, at that time. It changes by itself if you allow it freedom from restriction. It is common to be completely mystified at one point and by crystal clear the next moment, then lose it again. Allow this dialectic to play itself out fully. Resist the temptations of premature judgements and imprecise positions. Trust the outcome of your involvement with this program!

42.

  1. Formulate the correspondences as derived from the chart arrangements: e.g.

FUNCTION = SUBSTANCE = FORM

FIXED FUNCTIONS OPEN SETS MARKERS

43.

  1. Construct pure and mixed color wisdom using the chart segment on card 40: e.g.
  1. PURE WHITE WISDOM :
  2. Markers nominate and label shapes and forms

  3. PURE YELLOW WISDOM :
  4. Structures link and associate features into dimensions.

  5. PURE GREEN WISDOM :
  6. Taxonomies are intersecting fixed functions.

  7. PURE BLUE WISDOM :
  8. Tactics predicate open sets of dramatizing substances.

  9. PURE BROWN WISDOM:
  10. Paraphrastic modulations map the keyings of strategies.

  11. PURE BLACK WISDOM:

44.

  1. Consider the kind of rationale one could give for constructing additions to the partial chart given on card 40: e.g. WHITE WISDOM. The NOMINATIVE phase LABELS FORMS AND CONFIFURATIONS; it MAKES SHAPES and FORMS; it would also therefore IDENTIFY, CHARACTERIZE and ISOLATE FIXED VALUES such as STANDARDS, and SOURCES.

This arugment extends by six the list of white words by formulating sensible grounds for them in the form of an argument array, as illustrated.

45.

  1. Consider now the argument arrays that succeed in sensible proposals for the extension of YELLOW WISDOM: since LINKED FEATURES form STRUCTURES they must INTERRELATE or RELATE PARAMETERS; STRUCTURAL LINKS require JUXTAPOSITION and ORDERING or ASSIGNED values and standards; ASSIGNED FEATURES form ASSOCIATIVE LINKS that are RELATED in some SEQUENCE and determine an ORDER, a DIRECTION, and an ORIENTATION. THIS ARGUMENT EXTENDS THE YELLOW LIST BY NINE WORDS.

46.

  1. The six WHITE and nine YELLOW extensions proposed by the arguments on cards 44 and 45 can be shown to be related by arranging the words in an appropriate array: e.g.

WHITE YELLOW

Identify Interrelate

Characterize

Isolate Inflect

Fixed Value Parameters

Standards Assignation

Sources Orientation

Relate

Juxtaposition

Ordering

Sequence

Direction

Note that the organization of the chart directs one to search for arguments that would provide sensible proposals for filling in white words in the blank slots.

47.

  1. Consider the following argument:

ORDERING, SEQUENCING, ORIENTING are ASSIGNED JUXTAPOSITIONS (YELLOW WISDOM, see CHART SEGMENT ON CARD 46.);

White Word X = White Word Y = White Word Z, where

Order Sequence Orientation

x, y, and z must be like other WHITE WORDS in their NOMINATIVE function: viz. SOURCE, ORIGIN, IDENTITY, CHARACTER, FIXED VALUE, MARKERS, LABEL, FORM, SHAPE: POSITION, LIMIT, CONSTANT, ITEM, CIRCUMSCRIBE; of these POSITION RELATES to JUXTAPOSITION and ORDER by implication or presupposition, while SOURCE RELATES TO ORIENTATION and TIME to SEQUENCE.

48.

  1. The arguments on cards 44 to 47 establish the extensions of the chart on card 40 as follows:

WRITE YELLOW GREEN BLUE BROWN BLACK

Identify Interrelate

Characterize

Isolate Inflect

Fixed Values Parameter

Standards Assignation

Sources Orientation

Relate

Juxtapose

Position Order

Time Sequence

Direction

Note the missing slots. Try filling them by asking appropriate questions that trigger sensible answers. (Hints on the next card.)

49.

  1. Asking questions trigger answers that may fit slots and provide sensible arrays to justify extensions: e.g.
    1. Characterize = Yellow Word X

Time Sequence

where YELLOW WORD X is like INTERRLATE and ORDER; perhaps HISTORY or HISTORICIZE.

(2) Position Order Green Word X

Shape Dimension Dynamics

Read: GREEN WORD X implies YELLOW WORD ORDER which implies WHITE WORD POSITION (see Chart Segments 40 and 45); DYNAMICS implies DIMENSION implies SHAPE; what is GREEN WORD X,

where X as perhaps MOVEMENT since

Dynamics Dynamics

POSITION ORDER MOVEMENT appears

SHAPE DIMENSION DYNAMICS

sensible. etc. etc.

50.

  1. Practice ethnosemantic transpositions by constructing sensible arguments that justify the following chart segments: Part 1a

WRITE YELLOW GREEN BLUE BROWN BLACK

51.

  1. The proposed extensions in chart segment 50 are tentative. Solutions to arguments for establishing their sensible ground needs to be worked out empirically, but partial solutions can be constructed and these indicate directions for further research (see next card for hints). Eventually, you’ll need to work on developing notation systems for formalizing and systematizing methods for producing arguments that interrelate arrays called DISCOURSE SEGMENTS. That matter is taken up in another program routine designed for more advanced ethnosemantic procedures (See_______).

52A.
