Lab Report 2
*********Part A
*********Class Activities
The three ideas that I found interesting in my lecture notes are the
following terms: Driving Psychology, Self Serving Bias and Driving Carnage.Driving Psychology was defined as how to modify my driving behavior. This was interesting because the class helps me become better, by pointing out my flaws and gives me techniques to improve them.Self Serving Bias was defined as an automatic responce done primarily unconciously to make yourself look good. To me this term had importance because I was completely unaware of this in my driving technique. I readily came to terms with it once my attention was directed to it. Driving Carnage was an interesting term to me because of the way it was compared to the war in Vietnam in our class. Once the total driving fatalities werecompared to the casualties in the Vietnam War my eyes were wide open. I realized that driving is a privalage and should be taken seriously.
Part B
The two Generational Curriculum reports I found most interesting are titaled Development Never Stops On The Road and her Driving Personality Makeover.
Development Never Stops On The Road
I found The first report interesting on how it pointed out how moral development occurs in the driver. It stated that we never stop learning, according to Kohlberg we move through a series of moral development stages.
The first stage is called preconventional. In this stage we obey the rules because of our fear of punishment. In a driving situation we will obey the posted speed limits in order to avoid getting a ticket from the police and paying a fine. The second stage is called conventional morality. In this stage we progress out of caring and to not hurt others. In a driving situation the driver will obey the speed limit because he has a genuine concern for the safety of others and dosn't want to hurt them. The third stage is post conventional morality. In this stage all the laws are relative and we do what is best for everyone involved. In a driving situation the driver would speed only if there was no one on the road and if he felt that he could advoid punishment. The final stage is universal human rights. In this stage we follow self chosen ethical principals even if they go aginst the grain. Kolberg believed that most people don't reach this stage. In this stage the driver would drive how ever he wanted irregardless of punishment or if others might get injured.
Her Driving Personality Makeover
The second Generational Curriculum report was interesting to me because she is such a terrible driver! In her report she states that because of being raised on Kaua'i and driving on Kaua'i she is a very, very cautious driver on Oahu. She attributes this high level of caution to the two lane highways and the absence of massive traffic and freeways. Being from Kaua'i myself I have noticed the drastic changes of driving on Kaua'i and then on Oahu. I feel the increased stress of driving in much more complex and busy traffic however, I don't become excessively cautious. I feel that overly cautious drivers are very bad drivers. The reasons I believe this is because the overly cautious driver is totaly stressed out and panicing when he should be relaxed and alert. Her solution to her driving problem is to slow down and alow for more reaction time, drive in the far right lane at all times, and before driving plan out your trip by looking at a map. These solutions to me seem very excessive as well as annoying to other drivers because they slow down the traffic flow and create bumper to bumper traffic as well as making it very difficult to enter the freeways. I hope she is driving better now!
My experiences on the Internet: At first the internet was my worst enemy because I had no idea on how to start the computers, and was getting no where fast! I had a hard time figuring out the computers commands because I have NO computer experience at all and was advoiding them.My advoidance pushed me farther behind on my homework deadlines and gave me loads of stress!!!!!!!!!!!
I have figured them out this far but, I have had a few problems. I spent alot of time reading the syllabus for this class and got lost a few times and had to renter the system. The biggest problem however was when my connection was lost by the host. This was particularly stressing because I was behind in my reports and was just begining to gain confidence when I got a big setback that I did not know how to fix. This also set me further back and piled on more stress! I kept trying to figure it out but was forced to give up and wait till class a few days later to get the solution. Hopefully no more problems will occur and other students will continue to help me with my questions so my Internet experience will be enjoyable.
The two class activities I partisipated in were during the oral reports of the Generational Curriculum papers. I enjoy listening and commenting on the papers, usually the papers are quite interesting and funny, however there are some boring ones out there!!!!!!!!.
Finding out information in a hypertext environment is pretty easy, however there are times when nothing goes right! For example I recently lost my report for week 4 and week 5. I lost them because of the damn pound signs on my labreport file. I tried to M-X it but I guess I did some thing wrong because POOF it's gone! Bummer! I'm currently having problems making my links connect to my ancors in my text to form my topical index!!!!!! Is anyone else having this problem? It seems that what ever I change (and hope for a miracle) and hope it is fixed dosn't seem to work. For more of my writings on this topic see my The Evil Internetsections.
Going through the syllabus and the instructors weekly comments is a snap, all you gotta do is follow the links. Going through the other students labreport files helps a lot! Thats the main reason I'm up to date and have any clue on what to do on my labreport file. Thanks for the help guys/girls!!!!
How to fight being a pessimist is really easy. To win the battle all you gotta do is look for the positive in it. I know at times the positive side just doesn't seem to exist, I've been there even today! When you start to get depressed and feel beaten down keep trying! I don't know what the hell I was writing I get so pissed of at this f*(*%&^%&^$#@%$#& computer at times. At times I feel there is no positive side to this, but I keep on troding through it!I guess thats positive(sorta).
My experiences in reading the other students papers was so-so. I was interested in a few of the points presented but it seemed to me that the writer was overly timid. Thats why I didn't throughly enjoy reading her papers because the writer was so much unlike me. She had totaly differentbeliefs than me. It did however open my eyes that there are some really junk drivers out there. She is a very, very cautious driver to the point I think she causes accidents! Myself I tend to be inbetween not overly cautious yet not a led foot either(o-kay sometimes. Aren't we all?). I drive depending on the conditions, if it's safe to speed I'm gonna do it but if its not I just cruise.I have no idea what the writer accomplished from taking this class. The only thing I can think of is that she was much worse before taking this class.I'm sure she learned many things from the lectures and the other students comments in class, but she didn't seem to incorporate them into her driving.
This class has confirmed many of my own beliefs as well as introduced some pretty good ideas.I believe we never stop learning and improving and this class has given me some new ideas and techniques to follow and not to follow that will improve my driving persona. Everyday is a learning experience!!!!!
While using the instructors home page I used his search and index facilities to do my search for traffic related topics on the web. Specificaly I used the Web Crawler.
The first traffic document I found was a major source to find out information about numerous types of automobiles. Primarily this file contained loads of information about BMW's. You could also find out lots of different sechedules for auto racing in this file as well. Click here to find out more BMW Info
The second traffic document I found was a public safety notice from the Automobile Safety Foundation. This article focused on the use and hazzards of steering locks. Pretty scary stuff! I had no idea the impact of steering wheel locks could have. Click here to find out moreAutomobile Safety Foundation
The third traffic document I found was from looking at Jae Isa's labreport. I couldn't help but to pass it on to you the internet audience! It's an article that gives you a chance to win a car!!!!!! For those of you who read my labreport (which I fear are few, I've had so much stress in this class I forgot to be funny.) and haven't seen this in other labreports click on and win!!!Dealernet
My fourth traffic document I found was about bicycling.I included this into my labreport because bicyclists are traffic too! Honest! We may not have a huge hunk of steel around us but we do use the roads as well(sometimes we pick ourselves off of the road, when we get hit by a car!!!).It is so scary driving on the road with some of you guys! I can't count the times I ate it or almost ate it on my fingers and toes!!! Ok enough grumbling click here for the articleUpcomming Public Meeting Relevant to Bicycling
After spending numerous hours on the computer reading everyones labreports I came to the conclusion that my eyes don't work so well!! Now seriously(I thought I was being serious?).
After reading Joleen Lai's work I found this interesting comment on driving in a pack. Many of us in class had articles we had to summarize dealing with this issue. I personally feel that driving in packs does give a sense of safety but, at times I like to break out and speed like hell!!(how about you?) Driving in the pack can also be unsafe because people feel too secure and don't pay enough attention to the road and others around them and get into accidents. For more interesting info look at Joleen Lai's work called pack is safe
Diane Beauchimin also had some interesting stuff on convoys relating to car pile ups due to driving in the pack check it out:Stats
Terri Slaughter interested me with her article about driving with others and how we all love to speed. Her article hit home because thats exactly how my friends react to my driving.(well some of them some love driving like a madman!!)
She has many good points on how we drive with others in our car.check her stuff out:Other people

After reading Diane Beauchimin's labreport I found her humor a welcomed break from this computer stress. So right here and now i'm offering you some of her laughs in case you missed out.Her Arkansas Residency application Link
I got a very important article from Diane Beauchimin that I feel the whole world should have access too!! Mainly because laughter is the best medicine for all you problems and worries etc. but, mostly because I'm a die hard Letterman fan. So click here and get ready to laugh your ass off!!Letterman's Top Ten
Now on the serious side I found an article in Joleen Lai's work wher she comments on how her friends are crazy drivers,VERY crazy drivers. I've got lots of them too thats why this article hit me so hard. Some of my friends drive so bad I have to say a prayer before I enter their car!!(no kidding!!!!) So click here to find out about her CRAZY friends:Making Me Scared
Nicole Yoshimitsu wrote on a very serious topic The aloha in driving. What ever happened to aloha on the highways? It seems that our aloha is fading away. We do all sorts of little evils to others n the roads. For instance swear, flip the bird, swerve at them, drive intentionally slow, don't let them in etc.,my question is WHY? Just kick back and take it easy (My dad would say "hang loose".) I guess the point I'm making is live a little ALOHA and everyone else will eventualy copy you. Check out what Nicole Yoshimitsu had to say:Changes
Heres a topic that really bugs me. I got to think of it from both sides or else I get soooooooooo mad, Old Drivers!!!! Old drivers why are they on the road when they can barely see, barely hear, have poor reaction time and feel that 5 miles UNDER the speedlimit is speeding!!!! Ok heres the other side, They need to be able to get from a to b just like the rest of us, some oldtimers are actually speed demons (like my granny!!), they don't want to be stuck at home all the time or have to ask someone to take them out. Never the less they get me steemed when they are infront of me and I'm late to work (sound familiar?). Ok enough venting check out what Joleen Lai had to say:Too Old
Do You Wanna Leave A Comment For Me?
I spent a great deal of time reading over the instructors weekly comments file in search of a topic of interest that I could comment on. I found his articles titaled atmosphere, persistance, and identitying.(nope thats not mispelled!)
After reading Dr. Jame's article I readily could relate to what he was saying. When I was first introduced to the internet I had basicly NO computer skills, sure I could use the wordprocessor but that was all! I went frantic on trying to get the computer to do what I wanted it to do! It decided to do it's best to fight me the whole way. I had no idea how to figure out things and often wanted to bash the comuter aginst the wall!! Find out what the instructor had to say: Instructors comments
The second article I found totaly related to me as well.Persistance to me is a necessary fator in life, once you come up to an obstical you must strive to conquor it! I took this philosophy with me when I started to work on the internet. True at times I get frustrated (see above paragraph!) but I know if I quit I achive nothing and get nowhere so I continue on to achieve the best I can. Dr. James had some interesting comments on this topic as wel as Rayson Noguchi check it out: Dr. James and Rayson Noguchi's comments
Any Coments For Todd Crawford?
The third link I will make pertains to figuring out your problems on the internet. We are constantly doing new things in this class and at times while trying to attempt them you get a setback. When you get a setback TRY not to get too discouraged and by all means don't quit, instead try to get help from someone who knows. If you take my advice you'll save a lot more time and won't get so angry at your computer/"friend".check out what Dr. James had to say about one of his experiences in printing a document: Dr. James comments

I found asome pretty good comments and advice from reading the labreports of the psy409 class.I made a whopping six links to them right bellow (for those of you who have been looking at the monitor too long that means down!)(my eyes and brain seems to get foggy after awhile!)
After reading Allison Asahina's (yes her name is propperly spelled Allison with two L's)labreport she gave me some good insight. She comented on the new internet experience and the frustrations that come with it. She helped me see that indeed I know a lot more that I did to begin with. Eventhough I may trip and stumble on the computer at times I am begining to get a grip on it! (the
slippery little devil it is!) Thanks Allison for your positive thinking boost out of frustration! Check out what she wrote:Allison's paragraph

After reading Tina Smith's comments on the internet stress I feel much better. She had a pretty serious problem with the arrow keys. Boy am I glad I haven't had any really difficult problems like that!(Knock on Wood!!!) Link here forTina Smith's problem
I thought Tina Smith had a very good point in one of her paragraphs that I'm sur all my fellow 459 classmates will agree upon(especially those in both 459 and409.)I think she has a very good point! Are you curious, are you??????

Joleen Lai gave me a very usefull tool in saving time and my sanity. she talks about the wonderous E key in her paragraph click her to see what it does!!!Thanks Joleen Lai!!!
I also got some good advice from Dellia Badua on how to get through this class from reading her report. She says to think positive when you feel alltensed up!check out what else she had to sayHERE
After browsing through the instructors weekly comments file I came across some pretty good stuff. I found some pretty interesting resources.
Funny Stuff
The first link was to some jokes on the internet. These jokes are on and about computers. They all pertain to some cute comments on how we deal with our "friend" the computer.her it is:Technophobia Laugh And Cry
Neat-o Links
The second link was more serious, It is an access link to some cool resources. It's a god place to just browse and find some interesting stuff.clck here:Some Interesting Links
I found a cool link inside this one that is a very serious link to some people, don't criticize it!!! I hooked up this link for all those trekies out there. You can hook up to all the info of The Next Gereration!!!!!! Beam Me Up Scotty!!!!!!!!! It's also got a lot of pictures and stuff you can view on netscape such as calvin and hobbes comic strips, check it out !!!!!!!.
Venting
The third link was to the instructors section on venting your computer aner, or as he calls it "Smashing The Computer Feelings." There has been many times I have wanted to pick this damn computer out the window!! But I restrained myself, Click her to find out what other people wanted to do to their computer "friend/enemy." Smash It!
Makeover Concept
The best way that I can explain the driving personality makeover concept is that is designed as a way to better your faults. I'ts a good way to improve on your driving habits and beliefs.I my case It gives me feedback that I normaly would not have thought about but, are constantly reminded of by your friends and family. They comment on how you drive in a truthfull manner, listen to them and improve on their observations.
I think that our driving personality makeover is related to traffic psychology because in traffic psychology we analyze our driving personas as well as the personas of our classmates and previous generational classmates. I feel that it relates to the goals of traffic psychology by helping us to become aware of how we drive through our own insights and other peoples observations.
Hum what I consider to be a good driver????????? Well I gotta say ME!! I think that I am a good driver because I pay attention to the driving styles of others on the road with me as well as my own techniques.I feel that a good driver must have knowledge of the laws of the road as wellas the rules of the road.To me the aws of the road consist of obeying signs and traffic lights, following a safe speed limit, and not drinking and driving etc.(I'm sur you all have an idea of the rest of them)The rules of the road consist of courtesy to your felow drivers. To me these rules are focused on being friendly, like letting other people into traffic, not tailgating obsessively(I tailgate, yes I do!),Not constantly switching lanes, and not speeding when it is dangerous to you and other drivers who share the road with you. I believe I follow these rule most of the time. I say MOST of the time because when I feel it's safe I speed like hell!!!!!!!!! Usually I feel this way when there are hardly any cars on the road and I'm not in a busy area with pedestrians and bicyclists. I only speed on the freeway on oahu but,on Kaua'i since it is less populated and dosn't have a big freeway I ocassionally speed on the roads there(My confession has finally surfaced, now that I have admitted it all you other closet speeders can come out!!!!)
If I was to construct a driving personallity makeover for myself It would have to focus on not getting mad at other stupid(and I do meen STUPID!!)driverson the road. You know the ones I'm talking about the really stupid ones who don't deserve to operate a powerful machine like the car! I meen the drivers out there wo just don't have a clue, for example the ones who drive with their blinker on for miles and miles, those who block intersections just to get through the traffic light(like on Dole street and Lower Campus road), those who insist on driving at the posted speedlimit or 5 miles under it (see what I said about this type of elderly driverHERE ,Those who are in the right turn only lane and at a red light and don't turn, they wait for the light to turn green!!!!!!!(and these are a few of my pet pieves!!) Why are they out there they only piss off other drivers, don't they havea clue how to drive??
I think I need to improve my driving personality when I am in situations stated above because I get SOOOOOOOO mad!! I get SOOOOOOO mad I turn green (sorta like the Hulk!!! Nah, but pretty close!) with rage. I swear, stick finger, and comment rudely about their driving! (yes imagine that, sweet little old me!!! WOW!!) I also have many of the reactions listed in one of Dr. James files, see what I do, you've probably experienced them too! (Aren't you CURIOUS?) HERE I do this because they ave NO ALOHA they only care about themselves, I don't exist! look at my previous report on Aloha HERE I know I need to relax and not let them dictate my emotions but they are so ignorant of the other drivers around them. This is going to be hard for me to do and I don't expect it to come over night or in the next few years, but I do realize I do it and I try to cut it down and pretend it dosn't bug me.

As soon as I entered Dr.james link to his file I was immediately sucked in to one of his links. I went into it because yes I Was CURIOUS! It was pretty funny and emotional. The file talks about the different experiences of other previous classmates on the road. There are some really serious stories that at times do get graffic and may affect those with a weak stomach so click with cautionHERE(Wow with a disclaimer like that I probably hooked the whole class!!)
After spending loads of time reading the previous file by the students of Dr. James I continued on and read his work. I was also hooked on his paragraph that talks about the extreme physiological reactions and the extreme emotional reactions many of us probbably experience on the road,I know I do!! You can Link RIGHT HERE for Dr.James article
Another article that Dr,James wrote was about the threefold self. According to Dr. James this consists of how we comply to rules, norms, and roles within three conscious behavioral areas. These areas are Affective, Cognitive, and Psychomotor. Any Comments For Todd Crawford?
For our week 10 homework we were to observe the dynamics of traffic convoys. We were to notice how we drive in traffic convoys and how the drivers around us drive in convoys.
After driving in convoys for several weeks I came to the conclusion that it's a mad house out there!!! There are so many drivers on the road who tailgate you soooooooo close!!! When I went driving I tried to observe how I drive in convoys and the way other drivers do. I was amazed at my results! In order to get some pretty reliable results I tried to drive in different areas and at different times of the day. I would drive different ways than my normal routine routes, and I would even intentionally drive into rush hour traffic!!(can you imagine!) The results are as follows: Other drivers love convoys, they love to stick with the pack. I think that they do this because it is a sence of security. I realized this because no matter where you were going someone was on your tail. If you were speeding they followed right behind. If you were driving the speed limit or under they would pass you and speed up to the next faster convoy or create their own convoy. The scaryiest part about this assignment was getting passed by other cars. WOW they drive like maniacs!! They cut off other cars in nearby lanes almost hitting them, they speed infront of you and cut very closely infront of you and swear and yell at you. After many of these experiences I decided to be a fast convoy leader. When I took this role everything was great aside for an occasional speeder who wanted to break the sound barrier! When I drove in rush hour traffic I tried to stay in the far left lane (the fast lane). The reason I did this is because it moves the fastest. (I'm willing to experiment but I'm not gonna stay in the slow lane!!) I think I did this because Hawaii's freeways are all messed up. The reason they are all messed up is because the 1st three lanes always turn into an exit, which makes people change lanes constantly! Okay back to my observations, enough venting. While driving in rush hour bumper to bumper traffic I found that people actually drive worse! They switch lanes constantly, cut off people ,try to squeeze into spaces that don't really exist, break when they could just roll along, speed up so nobody can fit in infront of them, and they try and cut into the 1st lane from a freeway exit instead of geting into line like everyone else.
How can I explain how other people drive, they drive like mad idiots! They speed al the time, even when there are lots of cars on the road, constantly switching lanes and cutting someone off! In my observations ther were a few individuals who drove with the pack and didn't speed up and cut others off. HORRAY FOR THEM!! I think that the drivers did so poorly was because they were in a urry. They need to allow more time to get to their destination. If they do this driving wouldn't be so chayotic and a dog eat dog and experience. I know at times we gotta rush , what I'm saying is rush with caution and with consideration for your fellow drivers. Like those bumper stickers I see on the road LIVE ALOHA.
Would my observations influence my driving? I think that this assignment made me more aware of how other people drive. I feel that I drive in convoys pretty well, I do speed but I don't cut others off and come close to hitting them. I do like to follow the pack or lead them whatever the case may be. I use the drivers ahead as lookouts for the cops. When they hit their breaks thats the sign to slow down copper around the corner.(THANKS !!) Joleen lai commented on this also. Check out what she wrote:Joleen Lai's article
My suggestions for driving in convoys are don't switch lanes constantly, don't cut off other drivers, don't tailgate too close. see my glossary item for the propper distance.Propper Distance Between Cars
In other words don't be a jerk, be considerate. If you allow yourself extra time getting from a to b then you won't get so stressed out and need to speed like a madman. Look at my previos homework for more aboutALOHA.
Heres a brief review of Susan Wisnicki's report titaled My Personality in Traffic: Reactions To Road Unpleasantries.
Her first topic of disscussion in her paper deals with her differences between an amateur driver and aprofessional driver. She feels that the difference is attitude and gender. She feels that women are far superior to men in driving, she bases this on the fact that her boyfriend has had any accidents and she has had none. (OH IT MUST BE TRUE THEN!!!) She also states that professional divers (like her!) don't get angry or rushed by a tailgater.
She wrote about how tailgaters or "bumper huggers" as she likes to call them are too aggressive, impatient, rushed and have an overly competitive personality. She feels that their behavior on the road must be in some sort of catagory in DSMIV. She feelsthat they need therapy, lots of therapy.
She talks about driving using zen meditation.(sounds like the people in Hanalei on Kaua'i) She believe that a spirit is most relaxed when you meditate. Her form of meditation is focusing on everything around her, not your stereotypical legs crossed and eyes closed chanting. She feels that when she is relaxed and soaking up the environment(beach, mountains, sun set, etc.) that she can still pay attention to theroad and infact she is a better driver. I sorta agree with her in respect to looking around you when you drive but I feel that your main focus shouldbe on the other drivers. I believe in defensive driving in which you plan ahead before an unsafe incident occurs. When ever possible I try to relax and soak up the environment. Ths is Hawai'i it's too beautiful to just pass up and drive on bye. I guess thats why I love Kaua'i so much, It's so grean and semi untouched by concrete. Not to mention the route I have to drive daily to get anywhere I gotta pass a watterfall and a river and a long strip of beach.(for those from Kaua'i I live in Wailua Homesteads) But I digress!!!
She has avery srong opinion as do I on the topic of driving under the influence. The people who drive when under the influence of drugs or alcohol are a discrace of a human being. We feel that if you want to risk your own life thats your choice but to put numerous unsuspecting people at risk of death is not your choice!! More than half of al the drivers who are in accidents are drunk or high on a drug!!! Pretty scary huh! These sort of drivers invade others right to safety. This sort of driving she feels is selfish. She elieves that other drivers should behave in an apropriate manner. There is noneed to drink anddrive, get a designated driver. It only takes one accident to kill your self or worse you survive to find out that you kiled a pregant lady and her three children when you swerved into their lae. Use your head Think Before You Drink!!! For those of you who ride a motercycle please don't drink and drive I lost one close friend and another is just recovering from a serious coma and has only control of his left side. THINK!!!
For this weeks home work we were to observe others tailgating, and think of the legal, moral, and spiritual implications of tailgating.
After a few weeks I decided I was ready to write this homework into y labreport file. I feel that I have some pretty interesting obervations to share with you the internet audience, and what a fine audience you are! (Shut-up Eddie Haskel!!) While driving it seemed that if I drove the speed limit on the freeway my bumper was a agnet for all the other drivers. So many people tailgated me than. Most of them would eventually pass me and come VERY close to hitting me, or they would swear at me or give me the finger. Seesh I was only following the rules! (In all honesty I probably would have gotten mad too, but I would have just passed and went on my own merry little way!)
Im pretty sure that tailgating isn't aginst the law, I don't think a police officer can give you a ticket for it. I know that there are certain regulations on how much space you should have between the car infront of you. See my glossary for more info Click Here And Wammo!! I Don't think that at this time the police have aay of regulating propper distance., If they do please let me know.
On the issue of morality I feel that tailgating is definately a moral issue. I feel that it is an infringement on the drivers rights to be put under stress from tailgating. We all have pretty much the same feelings when were being tailgated. We wish he would back off, we try to speed up, we pump our breaks,or to get even we slow down. I'm sure you all have done at least one of these things. Tailgaters are a annoyance to us because they are entering our safe space and put us in a stressfull mood. I'm sure that many people have their own degree of iritation from tailgaters, some may not even care! What we do know is that we all do it and it annoys most of us, the question is why? For this I have no answer.
I don't quite understand what the spiritual implications of tailgating are ,I guess that it is similar to morality and is linked with heaven and hell. I'm not sure what you want Dr. James but I'll try to explain on how I view the question. I feel that Tailgating is a moral issue and an anoyance. I guess that if we irritate others intenionally to the point that they drive unsafe and crash that we are some what responcibe. I guess that God would look down on this but I don't feel that you can't go to heaven if you tailgate. I don't think that God would send you to the eternal hot spot for just tailgating, he probably would if you caused the person to crash and the crash kiled him. Who knows? Your guess is as good as mine!!
Any Comments For Todd Crawford?
Checkout My Glossary! The third oral presentation did was on Ernest"niki" D. Libarios Jr's paper. The tital of the paper is called Annotated Biblography for My Personality inTraffic: The many Traffic Patterns of My Mind.
He included in all of his topics how he found the information and what the impact of the information was on him.His first topic was on techniques for reducing speed. This technique consisted of the state posting a sign that states the percentage of drivers not speeding on the roadside. From this experiment their results stated that this technique greatly reduced speeding. Tey caled the driving force behind the sign "peer presure". He liked theidea to post these type ofsigns. I disagree because for the people who love to speed this could be seen as a way to compete with other drivers on who can speed the fastest and ifhe could raise the signs percentages while he blasts on bye.
Top Of Page
His other topic was on how stress was related to accidents. He feels that stress puts the driver in a state where he is not at his best driving potential. His solutions to reduce stress are to listen to relaxing music such as classical music, don't let the other drivers irritate you , leave a little earlier to your destination, take deep breaths when you feel your stressing out, and advoid driving druring peak traffic times I don't think stress is a major cause of accidents but i'm sure it contributes to some extent. I think the worst thing to do while driving is to not pat attention to the other drivers around you and to keep control of the road. For example if you see a swerving car infront of you and you think he's drunk then stay way behind him or pass him from two or three lanes over when it is ssafe to do so. Stuff like that!
He also writes briefly about those annoying drivers who drive with their blinkers on for miles and miles! Don't you just wish you could shoot those dam idiots!!!! Ok maby not shoot them but something mean to wake them up. HELLO!!! He feels that choosing not to use your blinker while turning is just as rude. He feels that it is an aggressive venting act to release hostility. I think that they are either lazy, self centered, or just plain stupid!
To Buckle Up Or Not To Buckle Up?
He concludes his paper with a topic about using seatbelts. He feels that seatbelts are not nessisary and that they are irritating. He states that using your seatbelt only prevents 50% of deaths. I guess 50% is not enough for him! I'm a strong believer in seatbelts . I learned the ard way, I got intyo a accident when I was 18 and I wasn't wearing my seatbelt. I hti my head on the windshield and cracked the glass to pieces, not to mention a huge welt the size of a baseballon my head and the pain oh the pain!!! Now I never yes NEVER drive without my belt on and I insist that those who drive with me wear their belt too. I got lucky I could have died, It'sa good thing I got such a hard head!! So learn from my mistake Buckle Up!
For week 14 homework our assignment was to find 10 more links related to traffic psychology. We are to tell how we found them and what they basicly contain as well as leave a hot link to the article. After searching the world wide web for ceartain key terms such as traffic, driving, automobiles, tickets, etc. And many patient hours of search I came across 10 very interesting articles.
I particularly like this article because it is perfect for the Hawaii audience. Many people from Hawaii havn't seen snow let alone driven in it! This article is an Exelent source of information on how to prepare for such an excursion. One of the main topics is winterizing your car, which gives tips such as check your antifreeze, tire inflation, and have chains. Another topic was a mass of tips like, have a full gas tank, allow lots of time, and slowdown as the roads are slippery and you have chains on. The article also talks about the propper uses of tire chains. The article finishes off on delays and closures, which elaborates on changing weather and road conditions and spinouts to name a few.heres my Hot Link:Tips On Winter Driving
The M.I.T. program focuses on research based on automotive manufacturing such as the best practices, assessing industry performance standards, comparisons with international assembly plants, and suppliers and distributors. They also focus on how the automobile relates to society. Information such as the impact to the environment, regulation, management and labor and business and government interactions. M.I.T.Program has lots of information on how the automobile affects the world we live in. Click here for my Hot Link:International Motor Vehicle Program At M.I.T.
This is a discussion on how to reduce pollution of transportation emmisions in British Columbia Canada. The commision in the United States is the Environmental Protection Agency(EPA). In British Columbia the Air Quality Advisory Comittee,Fuels Task Group, and Motor Vehicles Task Group all work together to keep pollution to a minimum. I think that Canada has developed a good system to reduce traffic emmitions and reduce air pollution. Click here to find out more:Clean Vehicles And Fuels Program
This resource has MANY,MANY links to very interesting traffic related items. They have a link to NOAA Weather Info that gives you numerous different weather forcasts and predictions for the long drive to wherever you go.They have a very comprehensive supply of traffic and road reports from New York,Lake Tahoe,Washington,Orange County, and Wyoming just to name a few.(No Hawaii!!) Thay have lots of info on getting started with trucking including getting brokers, leasing, permits, repair areas, and dealers to name a few. A essential topic for truckers is the road kill cafe which lists many eating establishments(if you want to call them that!) for when you need to fill up.Check it out yourself:Truckers Transportation Homepage
This a driver friendly link because the goal of it is to help drivers advoid getting caught in speed traps set up by the police. You all know of some particular spot on your daily route that is particularly covered with police traps. This article has a list of states that points out their HOT spots set up by the police. Again No Hawaii!!! I guess we got to write him and help our fellow drivers in Hawaii!!Check out the Hot Link and make a contribution:The Speed Trap Registry
When I found this article I just couldn't resist! I was vertualy sucked in! The tital alone intrigued me, then when it came on the screen I was amazed! An actual ticket placed on the internet! WOW!! This article was very interesting to e because I have heard of the many different products that are out there that say they can help improve your horsepower and cote your engine and it's parts from wear. Brand names like Slick 50, Liquid Ring, Lubrilon, Microlon, Matrix, Petrolon, QMI, and T-plus.This article plays a significant role in the debate of FTFE's effectiveness. Oh By the way FTFE stands for polytetrafloeraethylene or more commonly known as "teflon"! Teflon by the way is a trademark of DuPont Chemical Company. The author of my Hot Link has several quotes from Dupont Chemical on the effectiveness and the harmfullness of their product. He states that the product dosn't really help it actually damages your engine! Themajor cause of this dammage is from the teflon additive that creates oil starvation, whic acts like a dam blocking the flow of the oil.I'm sure we have all seen the comertials advertising for this stuff. You know the ones that have the infamous no oil demos. The comertials that run several engines on dtfferent comertial oils and one with their product then drain the oils and see which engine will keep on running. Theirs always stays running. So What it runs but it is still damaging the engine. Check out my Hot Link for more info on this topic The PFTE Treatments
The york Traffic Web link is set up for the purpose of designing and assesing new ways of reducing urban traffic congestion and improving the urban environment by using traffic signal control, traffic management, road pricing and route gutdance.Check out their key research areas link and their programs used and written by the group link for ffurther information on the details I have described above. To do this click here to the main body of the article. The York traffic Web

For week 15 we have numerous questions to answer. These questions all pertain to our experiences in doing our homework on the internet and our advice and comments about it.
In evaluating what I have done this semester I feel that everyone who stuck with this class and faught off the temptation to drop it deserves a good pat on the back, Better than that we deserve an A. I feel that this was by far the most chalenging class I have ever taken. I had little to NO knowledge of computers before this class now I feel confident on my computer skills!!! This class was vert time consuming and very frustrating at times. I stuck it out and learneda whole mess of new skills on the computer. The internet will be a big part of our lives in the future, you can see the writing on the wall. I now have a big jump in the world of the internet. I feel that my web pages are well done linked to many different sources of information from my felow class members as well as some infromation from my world wide web search. I tried to be creative in my labreport by putting in humor when it was hard to laugh and I added some cool graphics to this labreport as wellas my glossary. Check them out in netscape if you havent already!!! What did it take to accomplish the tasks of this class? It took many, many, many hours of work! Ifeel like the click-lab is my second home. This class is very hard because we must get on the computer and try thinks out, Dr.James tells us briefly how to do things and we must seek a way to accomplish the tasks he sets out before us. This class was worth it though, through all the stress and dissapointments of things going wrong. I know that I have a very usefull skill now I can navigate through the internet!!!!!
The best advice I can give for the next generation of students taking this class is to tell them to stick with it, don't give up. If you get into trouble ask a felow classmate for help they are very resourcefull!! I got help lots of times from Joleen Lai mostly. I got the cool graphics from Diane Beauchemin Mahalo's to you girl! (again I digress!) I think that you'll be blown away on how to do things in the first couple of weeks but in time everything will begin to flow and your pride in accomplishing such a hard task will touch the sky!!
I think that learning the basics of the internet will help me in the future. I feel that the internet will play a big part in the future, and I have an advantage. I'll try to keep using the internets facilities when I finish this class. I plan on getting my own computer when I have the money and purchasing a modem to continue my ongoing learning experience with the internet.
My advice for the instructor would be to better explain what does what on the internet. It was so hard trying to figure out how to do certain things by ourselves, I usually asked my fellow classmates for help. What I think could be the est solution to this is to have class held in a computer lab for the first few weeks to get us aclimated to surfing the internet. A big boost you could give future students could be helping them out with their problems in getting started like you did for me! I think that it is important to continue building a generational cyberspace document because the students will learn a lot and traffic psychology is a growing field that needs your help in order to be as well known as clinical psychology and the like!
I think that this generations files should be put up for all the world to see! We came down a very bumpy road to get to this point, and we achieved what had never been accomplished before.(Sounds like the Star Trek theme a little!) We have done the impossible we have tamed the beast called the internet!! Horray for us!! I think that our files should be used to help the next generation, and to help all those interested in what traffic psychology is all about.
The awards section in your homepage didn't get much up dating through out the semester. It was a motivating force in my completion of the homework, you did however explain where we were at certain points in the semester. I feel that if more awards were given I would have been even more motivated to complete my homework on time and to do better than all the other students. It took me awhile to get the hang of this internet stuff, but once I caught on I achieved more than I thought possible! I feel that this class was a big test of our determination and abilities and I feel that everyone who is caught up should recieve the greatest award of them al an A from this class!!! C-YA LATAS!!!!
