Instructor:
Dr. Leon James, Professor of Psychology, University of Hawaii Gartley 213A (Home Office: 261-2382); e-mail: leon@hawaii.edu
Course Description:
Psychology of Elderly Drivers and the Rage-Depression Emotional Spin Cycle
Analyzes the elderly driver's world from the point of view
of traffic psychology, using the analysis of ethnographic descriptions and
electronic discussion groups. Students publish their reports on the Web, give
oral presentations in class, and participate in an online class forum
discussion on the daily emotional spin cycle. Uses a cumulative point system
instead of a final exam, and opportunities are given for earning extra credit points
and correcting one's reports. Includes computer lab where students are given
help in Web publishing. No prior computer skills are required. This is a WI
course and requires more writing than the average class. Students will hand in
a minimum of three reports and will have to make the requested changes when the
instructor reads the drafts. Students also read each other reports and make
approppriate suggestions.
