Start posting the second week of classes
(January 20). Two notes per week are required. (1) The WebCT Forum Discussions are at this address: Create your account by following instructions for self-registration. (2) After creating your new account, you will get a Login page. Use the Login Name and Password you just created. This will take you directly to the Home of PSY409a/409b/459 (LJ). Click on Discussions (on the left navigation menu) or on Communication Tools (on the main screen). Important Note: When you create your account you can use your real name or a pseudonym. If you use a pseudonym, you need to email the instructor with your pseudonym, real name, and which of the three classes you're in. Later in the semester, when you publish (upload) your reports on the Web, you can use the same pseudonym or your real name. (3) You need to post 2 messages each week starting the week of January 20 (second week of classes). To get your full points you need to post every week and only on the topics specified below. If you miss posting a week, you must make it up immediately the week after by posting double. (4) WebCT keeps statistics for the instructor on the number and date of all your postings. (5) The first message you post each week is a "comment message" in which you give a reaction comment to a research topic message posted by other students from any of the three classes. Please specify on the Subject line what your message is about. (6) The second message you post each week is a "bibliography research message" in which you discuss your research for that week that you are doing for the Annotated Bibliography Report. Every week you do a search session for your Annotated Bibliography Report. During this search session you fill out a Search Form. The Form and how to fill it out is at: www.soc.hawaii.edu/leonj/leonj/leonpsy18/g18forms.html You keep all the Search Forms as your data for the Research Report you will do after you complete and upload your Annotated Bibliography Report. Your bibliography research message each week discusses your search for that week. Describe these six things:
(7) The "bibliography topic message" must be about one of the approved research topics for the Bibliography Report. The approved bibliography research topics are: 1. Television characters and sexism 2. Commercials and cartoons 3. Conflicts of adolescent girls 4. Sexist jokes and men 5. Coca-Cola with aspirin 6. Talents of successful people 7. Instant gratification without patience 8. Helping yourself by helping others 9. Success is hanging on 10. Judged by what we finish 11. Kicked while down 12. Woman and man's role 13. Driving without compassion 14. Optimism and self-efficacy 15. Other approved topics Explanations of these research topics are
given in the instructions for
the bibliography Report at: These explanations are also found in the WebCT Forum Discussions under the topic: Notes From Dr. James: http://webct.hawaii.edu:8900/public/uhmleon1/ (8) Remember: In order to post your weekly bibliography research message, you FIRST need to spend a few minutes doing some searching on the Web or some library facility on the Web. This way you'll be able to have something to discuss in your bibliography research message for that week. Remember the content of your posting, as explained above: here it is again:
Remember also that when you do the search every week you need to fill out the Search Form. The Search Form instructions are at: www.soc.hawaii.edu/leonj/leonj/leonpsy18/g18forms.html You will need to fill out the Form every time during your weekly searching. This will serve as your data for the Research Report to be done later. You will need to upload all the Forms along with research report. |
