The six team reports each have a due date and specify which lecture content it should address. This is listed in the Schedule of Oral Presentations, accessible from the Class Home Page.
Each team report is co-authored by the three students who formed themselves into a team. Normally each student is expected to contribute about equally. If this works out adequately, the names of all three students will appear as authors of the report. Because of absence or other issues there may result an imbalance. In that case cpnsult the instructor and a fair solution may be agreed on.
The students who show as authors of the collaborative report will each upload a copy of the report to their Home Page folder. Once uploaded, each student may then "customize" the document to their taste and upload the modified version.
The teams of three students each should be set up three weeks before the due date. There will be a five minute period given during which the teams are set up. It is up to you which teams you make up and with whom, but the rule is that you cannot team up with another student more than twice. This means there will be a lot of shuffling around during the five minutes of set up. Every student will keep a list of other students they have teamed with. Do not forget to bring this list to each class.
The report should have the following organization and numbered sections in bold.
The length of the report should be no less than 3,000 words (or around 10 printed pages) and no more than 4,500 words (or around 15 printed pages).
Important: Put a blank line between all your paragraphs to make it easier to read the online document. Bold all the sub-headings with a blank line above and below. Left justify the text, the usual way (not center or right). Do not use a color background. Keep it white.
All paragraphs must be no more than about 10 lines (which is about 150 words). Just put a return and a blank line after that to start a new paragraph. This is best for easier reading online.
The title should reflect the content and focus of the report as you see it. Make up the best title after the report is written.
Under the title you should have:
In addition: Each Section should identify the principal author of that Section. The name should appear at the beginning of each Section. If there are more than one principal author for a Section, put their names there as well.
Section 1. Lecture Content
Important: give a link to the sub-section of the lecture notes that you are reviewing.
Summarize the main ideas of the lecture. Supplement your class notes with the Lecture Notes to make sure you cover the whole material to be covered that week. Use bolded sub-titles for the concept or the focus that is being addressed each time. You must include comments that reflect your opinion, evaluation, and understanding of the material you are presenting.
Section 2. Team Presentation on Readings
Important: be sure to specify (a) author (b) book title (c) chapter and pages, link if there is one.
Summarize the main ideas presented by the team. Supplement your class notes with the assigned original chapters to make sure that you reflect what they presented in a sufficient context for the reader to understand even without having read the chapters or Lecture Notes. Use bolded sub-titles for the concepts or focus being addressed each time. You must include comments that reflect your opinion, evaluation, and understanding.
Section 3. Team Presentation on Exercises
Important: Be sure to label your answers with (a), (b), etc.
(a) Summarize the main ideas presented by the team.
(b) Describe what they did and how they interpreted it.
(c) Describe some of the ideas that needed a better justification or greater
amplification.
(d) What was the success of the approach they used?
(e) What improvements are needed in the procedures or in the instructions?
(f) What are the limitations of these types of exercises?
(g) Describe what happened when you did some of the steps of the exercises
(don't forget this step!).
Section 4. Annotated Web Links
Find 10 Web links that relate to one or more of the topics you discuss in Sections 1, 2, and 3. Each link should have a title and an explanatory paragraph that specifies how that Web page relates to the topic.
