Instructions for Typed Report

Due on April 23

Version 1

Minimum length is 6,000 words total for WI credit.

You can write this Report on your own, or you can collaborate with another student. Both student names will then go on the Report as authors. Remember the length is 6,000 words per student, so if there are two authors, the total minimum length must be 12,000 words.

For calculating the word limits, do not count lines you pasted in your document or that you are quoting. Do not count the dialogues or the book selections. The 6,000 word count per student applies to your own composed text.

Follow the word limits specified for each Part. Stay within those limits.

(Note: A convenient way of doing the word count accurately is to Select All (Edit Menu), Copy, start a New Page, and Paste. Now delete all the selections and dialogues. Now look at the word count. Close the file without saving. Redo this whenever you want to check the word count.)

Part I: Type Suitable Title Here
(1500 to 2000 words)

Describe and explain the three models or phases of marriage as presented in the Lecture Notes and in class discussions. Create a Table that contrasts the three approaches. The Table needs to have a suitable Title in bold. Do not copy any tables from the lecture notes. You need to make up your own Table. In addition to the Table you can also use visual illustration to enhance your explanations.

Part II: Type Suitable Title Here
(1000 to 2000 words, not counting selections)

Illustrate each model from material that you select from each of the three books. Present your selection then explain how it illustrates one of the three perspectives on marriage. Use formatting to clearly set off the selection from your own text. At the end of the selection add in parenthesis the Author and the Title of the book and the page number of the selection.

Show how the book says something that illustrates its perspective. This could be some advice that is being given, or some principle being applied, or some interpretation that is given for something. You can first introduce each selection by giving the context for the selection, then give the selection. It should not be more than a brief paragraph or a few sentences. Try to give several examples from each book. Explain in each case in what way each illustration belongs to that perspective.

Part III: Type Suitable Title Here
(1500 to 3000 words, not counting dialogs)

Illustrate the three perspectives through an analysis of couple dialog. Use the dialogs that were created by the five teams that you belonged to for the instructional soap on marriage. Select three dialogs to analyze, one for each of the three perspectives. You can check the prior generation student reports on dialog analysis that are linked in the instructions for the instructional soap. Your analysis of each dialog should refer to specific numbered lines in the dialog, so the reader can follow your analysis exactly. You also need to discuss how the dialog can be improved or strengthened, or which lines are weak in expressing the perspective.

Part IV: Type Suitable Title Here
(1500 to 3000 words)

Create an annotated list of YouTube videos that illustrate various principles you discuss in Part I. Give the title and address link for each video you include. Describe each video and what it illustrates in terms of our course topics. You can include videos on marriage and relationship advice, couples interacting, movie clips about couple behavior, music videos exhibiting couple behavior, and the like. You should have a minimum of 10 videos. Do not embed the videos in your document. Just give the link, and be sure to test all links after uploading your document.

Part V: Type Suitable Title Here
(1000 to 2000 words)

Give advice to future generations on how to enhance their experience of this course. Don’t just tell them Not to Procrastinate, which is a favorite advice given in the generational reports. Share some specific ideas with them about your understanding of the three models. Tell them what it was like to go through this course from beginning to end. How did it challenge your ideas? What was beneficial in finding out about these ideas? How will these ideas affect your future? What limitations do you see to the unity model? And any other issue you wish to bring up with them.

Part VI: References
