Course Description: WI/Psych 409a

Cyber-Psychology--- Principles of Navigation

Seminar exploring the principles of how Internet users explore the world of information. Topics include browsing indexes and using search engines, participating in newsgroups, and building hypertext navigation tools such as indexes, tour guides, and virtual books. Weekly written assignments are typed and posted on the World Wide Web using campus computers or dial-in modems. Oral presentations by students and class discussions on Internet issues. Aimed and organized for computer novices since most students are unfamiliar with the Internet and UNIX operations.

Grades: Point system as follows:

Oral presentations & class participation: 30 points

A=85 points; B=84-70; C=69-60; D=50-50; F=49

Absence penalty=-5 per class; Late work penalty=-3 per day late.

Textbook: All required reading will be on the Internet. Several required booklets for Internet literacy will be in the Bookstore.
