_____ 1) **First, take a look at Driver Alert online magazine,
Issus 1 to 4 and give an outline of it, describing your reactions to the online
magazine's
(a) content
(b) structure
(c) appearance.
_____ 2) **Make an
outline for your contribution to the new issue you and present it in the class email discussions, requesting peer reactions and comments. You also need to discuss your proposals in our class discussions. Have your outline approved in class by Dr. James. Your outline should cover content, structure, and appearance (in other words: layout, images, topic of text, proposed source or writer).Your topic must fall in one of these Major Sections:
A) Road Rage Surveys and Results, e.g., see these four locations, then come back here.
B) Aggressive Driving Ratings and Facts, e.g., see
C) Driving Personality Makeovers & Techniques, e.g., see
D) What Makes Drivers Mad (must include Lists and EI Assumptions)
E) The Future of the Automobile in Design, Training, and Road Engineering (search the Web)
F) Other Topics that you wish to propose--please discuss in class (e.g., Graduated Licensing, Speed, Government Programs, Car Image and Symbolism, the SUV Controversy, Driving Schools, Cyclists and Drivers, and so on--all these topics can be searched on the Internet search engines with good results).
Note: All topics and sources must be referenced with a link. Written (email) permission must be obtained for all icons or pictures used. You can also create your own icons and photographs. All individual sections and articles are to be integrated into the next Issue of Driver Alert Online Student Magazine. Find out who else is doing this report.
_____ 3) **Describe the story of this issue (be sure to link to it), as you see it from
your own unique perspective:
(a) how you contributed and how it got put together;
(b) what you went through individually;
(c) how the class reacted to the draft pages, in so far as you could tell;
(d) how you feel about the whole thing now;
(e) what suggestions you have for future generations working on subsequent issues.
_____ 4) **Find the generational reports (e.g., G9) that worked on a prior issue and link to them with a brief explanation for each link.
_____ 10) Put this in your HTML [title] field (or use Page Properties command): Driver Alert Online Magazine by FN/ LN, Gxx/ Year, University of Hawaii
_____ 11) Place a Table of Contents at the top of the document with links to all the sub-sections.
_____ Note: Students often forget this item--but it is required: The first item in the Table of Contents MUST be called Instructions for this Report and it must be a live link to this document. Points will be deducted if you forget this requrement! Do it now.
_____ 12) Be sure you add a Navigation Table and e-mail button at the bottom of the document. This is a requirment for all your documents. Check now now to see if you have on in all your documents. Do it now!
_____ 13) Using your web browser, check your document screen by screen: no screen should be made of just one paragraph (i.e., no paragraph should exceed one screen full--it's too hard to read that way!) Just look at every screen: it should not be made up of all text--separate using paragraph breaks.
_____ 14) Spell check your document before uploading!!
_____ 15) Check the visibility of your text: patterned backgrounds are not allowed. Darker colors are not allowed. White bgcolor is always excellent, especially if you vary the font face, color, and size to enhance visibility and emphasis (no blinking text allowed). Remember: your text looks different in different browsers and computers, so you need to experiment and ask others. You may also use graphic enhancers such as color bars, color dots, icons. However, animated icons are a problem if they distract attention from the text. Using the Table tag in html allows easy control over the color of each column and the placement of text on the screen. See this example for how to change the color of fonts. See this student's effective use of varied font faces, colors, and sizes.
_____ 16) Check the way your document loads after it contains everything. How long does it take? Does text appear on the screen while one waits, or is it blank? Slow loads and blank screens are not allowed, so you must choose graphics that are low in memory size!
