For this week's report, I used a different topic for the first
time because I used same topic for so long time and with almost every
search engines I could find. I chose "Lycos."
And I typed in my new topic, "family home page." I wanted to see how Netizens make their family home page with what purposes. I was so thrilled and excited about the idea. I got about 30,000 sites. But it was much less than I thought. However, I began to look through. I could read outline and abstract because I did my search with Lycos. I think it's one of the benefits of using Lycos. One of my concern about this topic was how it is possible for a family to create one home page together. And I found the answer for this question. I found so many family home page links that simply gathered other family members' pages together. For example, Del Rio Family's Home Page is consisted of family members' home pages. And another interesting things about Del Rio family is that they included their family tree and also the reason why they put their family home page. The publisher talked about the reason why they made this home page in a section called, "Why a Family Home Page" ? He said, "WWW is the fastest growing Intenet portion; unfortunately, in its current form, it is also the least interactive; netsfuring is quite similar to "zapping" on TV. But it ain't necessarily so! Building your own HTML file is not that difficult after all, and it getting easier every day; and even finding sombody willing to make it available on the net is not impossible, especially if yor provider is responsive and efficient like mine. So,inspired by "Billions of Websites", an essay by Dave Winer "published" on his DaveNet, here we are with our basic and very personal Home Page, to testify that WWW is for everybody: not only to look at, but to create." I really liked his reason,"not only to look at, but to create."
For the second part of my search, I decided to use"InfoSeek Net
Search."
I also typed in "family home page" and got a list of family home pages.
As I read through them, I felt that most of family home pages are put up
by a member of family who is able to work with HTML document. For
example,Temple Family's home page
was made by father who majores in information systems. I thought most
typical case of family home page is like Temple family's home page. I
had spent not that much time to looking for nice family home page when I
used InfoSeek search engine because they had short description about each
site with the result of search.
I thought family home page is a
healthy way to bind a family together. In a perspective of social
psychology, it could be a desirable family activity for happier family life.
