For this week report, I decided to utilize Lyco as search engine. I clicked on the Lyco Homepage, "Hunting WWW Information." And I entered search keyword, "parenting" and waited for the result. I found about 1310 documents on the word "parenting" and only 11 documents on the word "parenting manual." I looked over some of them and found very interesting site called "parents place." It was the parenting resource center on the Web. It had a series of articles, catalogs, products, services, and information about parenting. The site was designed exclusively for the parenting market and on-line news letters, articles and book excerpts, and even the chat line. The most fascinating thing about this site was that the site had its own search engine. Virtually any topic or aspects of parenting can be accessed through this search engine in depth. I tried its own search engine with the word, dyslexia, and got a long list of information transferred. I could see that various aspects of parenting with dyslexia were mentioned. Especially, many articles and books on positive side of dyslexia were introduced. I choose a book called "The Gift of Dyslexia" by Ronald Davis and read the excerpt. I thought it was very informational resource for parenting. The tone of information was very liberal. I guess it was for the environment to access information without any negative feeling like obligation. It was absolutely great site for social psychology in a sense that it reduces the distance between professional help and parents who are facing problems. Shopping is one of the list under family focus. I used the directory, internet search and info search to find the information about shopping. Somehow I found different kinds of listing where to shop around the internet, such as central net shop, sport shop, shareware, and others. If you choose one of this lists, it will show you another listing that you can choose from. It is really interesting and amazing that we can shop in the computer. I think shopping on the internet is very helpful and useful for the parents who don't have time to shop and who are busy with their children. It is very convenient for them. I think this is also useful in psychology because it gives us other alternatives in shopping and gives us information how to shop in less time.
