I went into the Net Directory. And there I found a directory called "point." I clickd on text only and got into "point's home page." I looked through the home page and decided to check "survey web review." There they had results of many surveys and ca tegorized them under various topics like education, kids, health and medicine, and science and technology. The address for this page=http://www.pointcom.com/text/reviews/kipa.htm And one of them was my topic, "parenting." I clicked on it. And there ca me up a list of interesting sites. Among them I clicked on a site called "Family World." I got into family world home page and there I could access virtually every topic about family. You MUST click HERE!!! I was interested in one of the topic called "parent's forum." This forum site has been created to put parents in touch with each other. Parents can ask questions or share problems and even funny stories with other parents around the world . I also checked out "questions for other parents." It was a site where you can ask questions and get feedback from other parents. I thought this kind of service is desirable in socio-psychological sense because it sure is supportive enough to be a support group.
This week, I went to one of the search engines called meta crawler. I typed the topic that I want in the small box called search. Then, I went click on it. Well, our group is focusing on family, and I was interested on women's issues. When I clicked on this topic, the computer gives me a lot of listing about issues of women. I began to explore on gender issues(community). I was curious of finding out what the groups have to offer. I think the tone and style of this article are very informative. One of the article that I was reading is about the "Global Fund for Women". This article is very interesting and educating for me because it tells you abut the different network new, their mission, the programs, and many others. However, I did not have enough time to explore about it because it has so many information and subtopics to explore from. I think this is useful to social psychology as I can see it because women nowadays need another variation in terms of their status. I think they need a group that will help them to reach out to other women out there. It is really a good networking especially for women who need support or want to volunteer their extra to other people who need help in our society.
I would like to explore more on this topic, and I will continue to look for more information too. I think it is very important for me to know more about women, and what are out there for me to know. I hope that I can find a good information about women that will benefit the class and myself.
Metacrawler is one of the good search engines that I had used because it helps me find the specific issues that I want to know. For example, the issues about women, metacrawler gives me more listing of subtopics that has links to it. So, it is really easy to use, and it is faster to go to different topics that will lead you to the place that you want to go to.
This week I did more reviews in Net Search since I could not get into the metacrawler database. I looked further into marriage and was kind of bored with what I saw. I couldn't believe how many articles there were on marriage rereats and encounter groups. I countinued my search and came across a very interesting article called David Marriage's Homepage. I was curious as to what this contained and how it pertained to my topic of marriage. Well I clicked onto it and to my surprise it was a homepage for a high school sophomore named David Marriage. It was funny to see that this did not have anything to do with marriage or any relationship but somehow it included this article just because of the name.
I wanted to see what this kid had to say about Indidana and his hometown. David, a sophomore in high school, loves bike ridding and likes to go mountain biking. He is enthusiastic about his bike and gave a location of the many bike trails around his home. He also gave a description of his hometown and what it's like. It was nice to see this article pop up in the system. It was getting tiring looking at all these marriage encounter groups. Perhaps next time I will be able to get into the metacrawler program and continue my search.
