YoonWhan Cho's Group Report

Family Focus on Internet

Week 7 Report by Group6

Among many search engines, I chose "Deja News research service." As usually I did, I got into search and typed in parenting to get a document transferred. I picked a site called "family planet," which is one of many on-line parenting resources. It says, "family planet, a new on-line parenting service on the Web offers daily family news, expert columns, children's media reviews, local events calendars, and more." So I decided to see what this news service is all about. I got into family planet home page. It was like a daily news paper. I clicked on a link called "news." And there were subheadings like health, pregnancy, and transportation. These were news for that particular day and all news were updated at 4:00 p.m. everyday. I found 3 news on health. One was an article about breastfeeding, another one was about Diarrhea which is one of deadly illness for infants and children. It was about the number of US infants and children who died from severe Diarrhea dropped about 80% from 1968 to 1985. And the last one was about a controversial treatment for childhood epilepsy control seizures better than medication for some who suffer from the illness. I also looked at other topics like pregnancy and transportation. I found the information is very informative and hel pful for parenting. I thought, to get daily information on family or parenting, this site is the best. And another good thing about this service is that it is easy to access daily updated news. I imagined in social psychology it might give a sense of r This week I went back into Metacrawler
and I remembered that I wanted to check out mai-ordered bride. I went into one of the many links that were there called P.S. I Love You
. The home page of this link was very well done. The images were clear and tastefully done. I went into the link that said browse and viewed a variety of women and their descriptions. They had around 398 women in their album with 8 successful unions.

I noticed that all the women were from Europe mainly from Ukraine. These women were under 30 yrs. old there were many 18 and 19 year old models/actress/student. If you wanted to view their videos just click on the ones you have choosen and they will send it to you for a fee of course. I did not want to see how much it would cost because I wasn't sure if they would charge me or not. My opion of this whole marketing aspect is disgust and empathy for these women. I realize that becoming a U.S. citizen would me so much for them but what about the dangers involved. One can never tell what kind of person will be asking for their hand-in-marriage or maybe just their hand. It is very risky but I guess that if they want a better life they would put themselves in such situations.
