HUNT FOR IMAGES

This week's tasks were most interesting among all the tasks that I have ever done. It's not that the tasks were easy to figure out but they were related to all the fun stuffs like graphics and pictures. I spend so many hours to get pictures, graphics, and images which were downloadable from the Internet. To do this, I used Webcrawler to get a list of downloadable icons and images. I used search engine to see how many downloadable images they have. There were so many of them. I thought it would be great to download those images into my diskette and use them to beautify my home page. I looked all the images and icons over and I picked some of them. I double-clicked on images and saved images. I saved them with names and added ".gif.bin" at the end. I did this for all of my images. Things seem to go smoothly. I spend so many hours to go over all the images and icons and my eyes began to hurt. I decided to fetch them over as my files. I did it one by one. It took me so long time to do this.

SHATTERED IMAGES

I checked in my CSS account to see if all the images were transferred successfully. I randomly choose one image and used "IMG SRC" to see it in the Netscape. But it didn't appear in the Netscape and there was only question icon. I tried again with other simple icon but it still didn't work. I was confused and didn't know what I did wrong. So I asked for help to a labbie but he wasn't helpful. I looked for somebody I knew who majors in Computer Science. He asked me what kind of file name I used. He said there could be a mistake due to ".bin." I changed one of my file names. I used "cp file name.gif.bin file name.gif" command to change filename without ".bin." And I removed one with ".bin." I changed the file name in "IMG SRC" and saw it again in the Netscape. But it gave me a shattered image icon and showed no image. We wondered why the image doesn't show up. He asked me how I saved image with what kind of format. I thought it was binary format since it gave me ".bin." He suggested me to use "Raw Data" format which is one of save formats. I opened an image in "photoshop" software and saved it as raw data and used no ".bin." I viewed it in Netscape and it was there. I did same for all my images and icons and they showed up in Netscape. I was satisfied by the outcome. He explained me that sometimes images should be saved as raw data rather than binary format to be transferred successfully to CSS server.

FOR THE RIGHT ONE

I realized that only thing left to beautify my home page is to keep working with images and icons which seems to be fun part. I tried to change colors of text and background to make more remarkable and impressive home page. But it wasn't that easy as I thought. It was hard to work with images and icons. Actually, it was hard to arrange images and icons effectively. I made several changes with background color and links and put in some of images. I will gradually make additional changes with my home page.

REACTION

This week's task was pretty easy. Maybe, it is because I have learned to deal with my fossilized error which is my tendency to struggle, not asking for help when I face any trouble. For this week, I spend less time struggling with problem and asked for help. But I still felt lacunae about my skill to deal with emotional frustration. I have made repeated lapses with my affective domain, especially with persistence. I know that I have the motive to persist but as the frustration continues, the motive to persist weakens. I guess I have learned quite a lot about this problem and maybe that's why I could ask for help to make both affective and cognitive breakthrough. Asking for help could be a real breakthrough sometimes. It first works in cognitive domain in a sense that it begins with identifying problem on any task. Then, it continues with striving for accuracy on task in affective domain. When the problem is resolved, I might have a sense of self-confidence which is a very important step in affective domain. After the completion of one task, I always have had the desire to complete another task. I guess these are steps of affective domain involved with asking for help. I could note progression whenever I go through these steps with asking for help. I could see my developmental trend in my acquisition in both cognitive and affective domain. I could acquire knowledge and skills. And, by doing so, I could finally overcome with emotional frustration for a particular problem. I think, in most of problem solving processes by asking for help, cognitive domain, in other word, figuring out concepts and expanding knowledge should precede and then affective domain or handling emotion follows by the outcome of acquisition in cognitive domain. My conclusion is that I can assume that this kind of process applies to other processes which involves Internet adaptation.
