PRECEDENT

I got into the generation one home page with lots of expectation. I felt that not only I was in this cybercommunity but also felt like in a part of history. Anyway, it was a good feeling, and I was proud of those who participated in this virtual soc iety. I was thrilled that I get a chance to see all the works of precedent. Since we are supposed to see all the files, I decided to see first half for this week and the rest of them for next week. But I will try to get into deep in analysis of both a ppearance and content for this week and next week. And I will try to choose and focus on those who seem to work hard.

KEVIN BOGAN'S WORK

I got into the home page of Kevin Bogan. It took me a while to have full document because of the picture. It looked like a family picture. My first impression about his home page was that it looked like a family history book. I read through the bot tom of home page. At the end, I saw the diagram that explains how cybercommunity moves on as the generation changes. I thought that was easy to understand because it helps people grasp of what the cybercommunity is all about. In depth about the diagram , I totally agree with his mentioning, "each semester new students enter the generational virtual community and add to the generational virtual hypertext superdocument." I thought his endeavor to scan that image to assist the next generation to understan d should be praised. I really like this image...

In content, I could see the same parts like navigation, resources, glossary, plans, and self-witnessing report in every weekly reports. I thought that was a good idea in a sense that it could be a dependent topical index itself. Ho wever, in navigation part, he mentioned about his route in general and even mentioned how long he had spent on internet. For every lab reports he spent almost 12 hours. I thought his glossary part was well-organized because he had cumulated all terms re lated to internet. He had the same terms for each reports but it was increasing in its volume. I thought it was a smart idea to segregate new terms from old terms. The reason is that by doing that Kevin, himself can see that he is expanding his knowled ge and also it would be a positive reinforcer in an emotional way. In plan part, he reminded himself to keep up with works and new stuffs. I thought the most fascinating part of Kevin Bogan's work is the self-witnessing report. For example, he used fou r different part in his report such as general cognitive, specific cognitive, general affective, and specific affective. I thought it was very good attempt of him. But it was little too random in its content and its label. I thought it would have been better if he used them in a separate topical index. For one more thing, I saw him made mistakes with his file titles. He used some titles like "409lab5.html" in title section. Generally, he has done a good job with numerous number of links and its variet y.

ALLISON ASAHINA'S WORK

Allison Asahina's home page was easy to recognize because she used rainbow bar for each section. It looks well-arranged. For each lab reports, she named topics like problem, exploration, insight and reflection, hunting, navigation, fighting pessimis m, depressed, state of mind, and so on. I thought that her mentioning about her emotion being out of control was very appropriate. The remarkable point about her each report was that in her content of each report she actually wrote each topic in the consideration of cognitive part and affective part. Generally, the appearance of her files was casual but the graphics were appropriate to make the visitor not boring. I could see her delicate work by looking at the selection of images and icons.

CAROL ALAMARES'S WORK

I could see some people made a fine home page in its appearance but made many mistakes in content and in miscellaneous things. In Carol Alamares' home page, she organized and arranged text and images very well but her content was little disappointing than I expected. However, I thought her idea to make alternative home page much simpler was brilliant because some people just don't want to read through whole document that is puzzling with all the images. In my thought, another mistake she made was to forget to put a clickable link to her e-mail address. I thought it was very big mistake to hinder visitors from sending a message. Another mistake in her content of home page was that she didn't specify each topics so that also hinders with better un derstanding for the readers. I could finally find a topical index among the section where she put all the lab reports but it was too confusing and I could almost missed it. I thought it could have been effective if she included topical index in her hom e page, not in the middle of text. But she did a real fine job with anchors, and her glossary was almost like a topical index.

DIANE BEAUCHEMIN'S WORK

Among many people put cool sites or cool stuffs, I thought Diane Beauchemin's home page was the best. The reason is that she made this link called "incredibly cool stuff." In this site she made many links that are unique and also humorous. She inclu ded hot links and humor section. Especially, "the really big button that doesn't do anything" was very funny.

Also "Jesus and Elvis" was incredibly hilarious. MUST SEE THIS!!! With pictures of both Jesus and Elvis, she compared them not in an offensive way. Even though her contents were good, she made some mistakes with her arrangement. She attached all the weekly reports to home page so it took so long to get the whole document transferred. I thought it would have been better if she put weekly reports to a different file and made link to it. However, she made a topical index and also short synapses about each topic to give a brief idea about what the topic is about.

PERSONAL DIFFERENCES

In this Part1 exploration, I couldn't find any notable differences among different home pages and also reports. However, I could see that personality reflects on each one's work. I could find some works in unique ways to arrange document and also in its content some works were superior in the way to write what they sense during the learning Internet. Among many student did a good job with exploring themselves in a cognitive and affective way, Kyle Fujii did a remarkable job. He was very frank in a way to describe his emotion during the acquisition and also kept mentioning cognitive domain. He once said, "I'm in !!!! It is so amazing ! I feel like I just got my "computer literacy" degree. I know I will probably get a few problems, but I feel I have at least a fighting chance." I totally agreed to what he mentioned about his emotion.

OBJECTIVE PERSPECTIVE

I could see myself making a fossilized error with reading documents from Generation One that I kept forgetting that I was supposed to see myself in learning process. I was into the content of documents and didn't try to observe what's going on around me. I was absolutely learning and acquiring but I couldn't specify what sort of cognition level I was in. I felt lacunae about my tendency to forget about the acquisition in affective and cognitive domain. Even though I was surfing in the Net, I should have taken a point of view of social psychologist. I also thought that this tendency might be due to my achieving the level of engagement on Internet. In other words, I automatically desire for the mastery on my work as I watch others work. That's why I forgot my point of view and just compared my work to them in a subjective perspective, so my resolution for exploration part 2 is to see others' works and to observe my learning process in an objective perspective.
