What is a Home Page?
A home page is a sturcture done by an individual, organization or company. It contains information about different subjects. For instance, one can find information about Education, Entertainment, Sports, Travel and many more subjects. These information can be useful to the user in many ways.
There are many purposes for a home page. For example, an individual
can give input about themseleves, an organization can state their prupose
and a company can sell their products. These
are just some of the few reasons for having a home page.
I've seen many personal homepages on the net. Some people like to
add their pictures, hobbies and favorite activities. As an example my
friend Kamal
did this. Although I've know him for a couple of years now
I never knew that he was such a wonderful artist and writer. I only
found this out when I looked at his home page. Kamal included links to
his poems and drawings on his home page. I thought that this was a great
way for Kamal to show off his talents. The Internet is a great way to
adding a personal touch.
Besides personal homepages, organizations
such asHuman Resources Organization also
give information, but this time its not personal information. They usually
state there purpose. For instance the Human Resources Organization was
created by a group of people in the University of Arizona and they state
that they support the missions of the various human resources functions
that happens at the university.
Lastly, companies with home pages try to sell their products. I was
amazed to see that Yick
Lung had a home page. Yick Lung
is a famous company in Hawaii, now
that they have a home page they can become famous anywhere around the
world. This is a great way for companies to increase the amount of
customers and at the same time their total earnings.
People are so involved in a home page because of different reasons. Some
people like it because of the vast information or it's presentation.
This is the newest way for someone to look for information. We do not
have to go to the library any more, instead we can type the subject on
any one of the Search Engines and with in a few seconds we will have a
list of home pages with the information that we wanted. most of the
information provided by the host of the home page are usually benefitial
to others. But there are some out there that does not help at all.
Besides looking for information users get caught up by the presentation
of the home page. The images, colors and graphics on a home page can
attract many people who find it appealing.
I am very happy to be involved in this new technology! Through out my
collge life I have never spent so much time in the computer room. I
spend a lot of time here because I get carried away with the Internet.
I'm at the computer room atleast four or more times a week. And on
those days I look at what new on the internet, or I try to add on links and
images
just to improve the looks of my homepage. But, this routine of mines
will soon change. Since I am graduating, I will not be able to have
this computer access any more. But I will surely thry to find a way to
get on to the net.
If I do find a way of getting on the
net I would want up date my home page and add more links to it. I want to
continue to work
on it because I think it is essental to have a home page these days.
There are many home pages that are good and bad. To me a good home
page will load up within a short amount of time, have a nice background
color, important information, and simple icons. A bad home page would be
the exact opposite of the discriptions mentioned above. Actually I guess
that I shouldn't say that it should contain important information because
what I think is not important information might be important to some one
else.
Here is an example of what I think is a good home page.
Dr. Leon James Page
HIs home page is very nice. It loads up very fast and it is decorated
with beautiful icons. Important words are enlarged to inform the
user about what the link is about. It is not cluttered with many words
and the icons go great with the subject. In contrast to Dr. James home page
Jerry's home page is
not very inviting. The background that he used makes it imposible to read
the words on the screen and he has too much icons on the top which makes
it look kind of confusing.
This new society can now transfer information through cyberspace.
People are free to choose what information they want. There is no
conformity, people are not pressured into modifying their behaviors in
responce to pressures from othes. They can connect or disconnect from a
home page. Although there is no conformity, I believe that there is some
kind of informational social influence. This is a type of social
influence here a person changes his or her behavior in response to
information provided by other poeple on cyberspace.
Ever since I had a home page on the net I feel as though I am
holding a
continous open house. Thousand and thousands of people will be browsing
through many home pages and most likely someone will come to mines.
Well, I want the presentation of my home page to be appealing or should I
say inviting. I feel as though I am the host and that I am responcible
for guiding these guest around my home page. Therefore, I do not want my
home page to be cluttered with icons or images. To me having too much
icons and images is like have a house filled with rubbish. I want my home page to look clean and easy
going.
The relationship channel is great. Even though I never met or talked
to the ower of a home page before, I can obtain a sense of what the host
is
trying to express. Unlike newspapers and television broadcasts shows, I
can find out about events from the people experiencing a certain
situation. Besides getting input from home page owners I can
easyly access a message to the
owner. We do not have to write on a piece of paper and stick a stamp on
it to communicate with each other. This is a much fast and innovative way
of giving and recieving messages.
Overall, a home page is a great way to make a connection with other
people. When a person explores a home page done by another person he
has made a
connection with the host because he is experiencing the thoughts and
feelings of the creator of the certain home page.
