Searching Engine Week 10:
WebCrawler and Infoseek
Happy Halloween everyone! I hope that you are having a spooktacular day. Well this week on the Internet I did my searches on two engines. They were WebCrawler and InfoSeek.I found these two searches by looking at my previous team report. I remebered that the new search engine called Webmart's Favorite Search Engines contained a list of other search engines. The subject or word that I used was Halloween.
The first engine I decided to explore first was WebCrawler. It
contained more than a hundred items. It was just a
list of titles with no discription. I noticed that the first twenty five
that were listed had the word Halloween on it. But after that it the
list contained items such as The World Wide Web Foot or Bullets by Jen
and there was another one that I found was not related to Halloween it
was called
Funeral Home Page. This is hard to believe, but this page is
actually trying to sell caskettes over the internet. It seems kinda
eerie to me, but I guess everyone is trying to sell their products on the
net, so why not caskettes.
My next task was to explore Info Seek. Info Seek had a lot more information about Halloween, they had atleast a hundred titles, but not all of the titles contained the word Halloween. The title of the list contained a little discription about the topic. I also noticed that that had up to date activities that were going to take place. I decided to click on Halloween-O-Webbery I really enjoyed this home page because it contained so many interesting things. For example Halloween party ideas, costume ideas , and spooky Halloween stories. I decided to look at the Halloween Part Ideas, so I pressed on Halloween Recipies. I had a lot of fun looking at the different recipies. Some of the were named Strained Eyeballs, Brain Dip, Tongues on Toast, and Kitty Turds on bed of Kitty Litter. I thought the names of the recipies were extremely funny.
While comparing the two different search engines I notice that I
enjoyed using InfoSeek instead of WebCrawler. I found that it is much
easier to look for something when you have the description of the
topic. I did not like WebCrawler because it did not have the
descriptions, I felt like I was wasting my time looking at pages that I
did not want to look at.
