Searching Engine Week 8:
New Search Engine
This week I went on to Net Search and typed the word Search Engines.
It gave me a list of old and new search engines. While looking down the
list something caught my eye, it was blink NEW, I just had to
look at it. It is called Excite. In
Excite it gave me four ways of searching. You can search by four
different ways, they were NetSearch, Net Reviews, Bulletin, and Handbook.
In NetSearch it work exactly the same as the one on Netscape. It
gives you a little box and you can type in a subject that you are
interested in. You enter a word describing a concept or a keyword
that Excite could find.
Net Review was a little different tha NetSearch. Instead of having me type in a word it gave me a bunch of choices, such as, Arts, Heath/Family, Life/Styles, Hobbies and many more. I decided to pressed education, then from there I pressed Universities and Colleges. I remember that a friend asked me if I know how to look up different universities on the net. Well, I know how to get it now. Hopefully, this will be helpful for other student wanting to experience another University or College.
Searching through the Bulletin was my favorite. It gave me
five choices. They were Business, Sports, Entertainment, Television,
Weather and Movies. This was my favorite because it gave me up to date
new about the subject that I chose. For example, I chose Sports first.
I read that a boxer quit his job because of the death of another boxer.
On Friday I remembered hear on the news that a boxer was admitted to the
hospital after his fight because he had a blood clot. I was very amazed
that the news on Excite Bulletin was very up to date.
I later pressed Weather.
I really like this page because it showed a map of the United States and
I choose a city to see how the weather was like. There were pictures
of sunshine, rain, wind and clouds to infrom the people about the
weather in that certain area. Some of
the that we could choose from were Los Angeles, San Fransisco, Chicago and
New York. When I clicked on a certain area it gave me a forcast four
the next four days.
I really like using excite. It was fun and easy to use. I think that
this search engine is very useful because it can keep people up to date
with the news, weather, and a lot of other things.
