Using Netscape For The Second Time

According to this weeks rating I had a very hard time. It was not as easy as last weeks assignment. This week we needed to explore other commands that I've never heard of or seen before. It took me a very long time to do the assignments.

There were many differences among the subtasks. They did not have the same functions. Here are some of the problems that I got into while playing around with the subtasks.

I had a hard time looking for the Bookmarker. I was searching all over for it in Netscape, and finally I found it, it was right in front of my face. Don't you hate it when that happens? I found out that the Bookmarker helps you to put a lot of subjects together so you will be able to look at it again with out searching for it.

At first I didn't know what I was doing. I pressed Add three times and when I pressed View there were three Hawaii Home Page's on my Bookmarker. Latter I tried to Add something else in my list. In the box that says Location I typed my friends address. Then I pressed enter so I could view his home page. After looking through his Home Page I added it on to my Bookmarker. I wanted to make sure that it was on so I pressed View. The new item that was on my list was called "404 not Found". I clicked on it and there was another list, and my friends list was there.

After fooling around with the Bookmarker I noticed that there was something else listed in it, it was called "lup". I clicked on it and it gave me LupKei Tong's Home Page. Who is Lupkei Tong? I think someone must have left "lup"in the Bookmarker.

I got tired of browsing through the different Home Pages so I continued with the assignment. I looked at the Search Engines and saw the word Special Query Operator. I clicked on it and it explains that if we type a specific subject that we are looking for in the text box it will give us all the information it has about the subject. I thought that the searches engines will come in handy when I need to find a specific title or document.

In the text box I typed the word California, and it gave too much information. So I thought that I should be more general and I typed the word Los Angeles. It was so neat it showed a bunch of things that happens in Los Angeles. For example,it lists Night Clubs, Discos, Comedy Clubs, Festivals, and Concerts. It seems to me that Netscape is like a travel guide. It is so convenient to look through the Netscape. The next time I travel to the Mainland I will look through Netscape to find out more about it. I think that it is very benificial for a person who is interested in knowing more about a certain place to visit.

I was curious in the subtitle Crusin LA so I clicked on it. Then it gave me another list, and out of that list I picked Disney Studio, and finally my last pick was NewsFlash. By this point I decided to send this "NewsFlash" to myself thorough e-mail.

I looked under file and there was Mail Document. I clicked on it and it said "You must specify a valid e-mail address for yourself in the preference window(under the "options" menu". So I went onto the options menu and typed my address and name. When I finished putting my informaiton in I pressed the okay button. At this point I was thinking that the document was being sent.

While waiting for the document I started on the other part of our assignment. Now I was going to try and save an image. I found and image then I went to options and onto Save As. I had no idea what to do and I couldn't work on it anymore because I need to go to class.

So I returned back to the CLIC lab on Sunday afternoon. I first checked my e-mail. There were no documents sent to me. Boy, was I upset. I started all over again. I selected a document and tried to send it again. I went onto options and typed my email address and my name. This time I didn't write anything on the mail server because "uhunix4.its.hawaii.edu", was already on it. This is what I should have typed in the first time. I pressed the okay button and then I went under files so I could mail the document. When I clicked on it I typed my e-mail address because it asked for the address that I'm sending it to. Then I pressed Send. Nothing occured. So I pressed Quote Document. This time there was an hour glass. I thought to myself that it was probably being sent. Well, twenty mintues has past and there were no changes, I checked my e-mail and nothing was sent. So I tried it again. I am pretty sure that I sent it the same way. I noticed one difference tough, when I pressed Quote Document and send the hour glass appeared for a short while. Then I checked my e-mail again and there it was. What a relief!

I went back to Netscape and the Home Page was on the screen. I went on to Netsearch which helps one to find a certain site or document on the Internet by searching through the different engines. I went onto Web Crwaler Searching. There were lots of images on this page so I decided to send it. I clicked on Save As under File. I gave it the name psyweek2. Then I pressed Open File and typed psyweek2. Netscapes Home page was on, but the only problem was that the pictures were missing. The pictures has been replaced with question marks.

So I tried again. I don't know why I keep doing the same thing. I know that it does not work. I So I explore all of the functions again, this time I notice the word Image and it is not highlighted. I went under options and clicked on Auto Load Images and now the box with the word Image was highlighted. Itried to save an image again, this time the pictures turned into different shapes. I stopped doing that for awhile and read the instructions carefully it said "Try to save and image in gif file". So I clicked on save as again. This time I looked at the different things in the box. I saw a file that said gif onit. I opened it, but it had agreyish color to it. I went to open files and then to all files and it gave me a list of names in gif. I thought that I had to save an image on this file gif. Well tried and I tried, I was not successful.

It was already five-o-clock. I was too frustrated to go on. So I left the CLIC lab hoping that I'll have more time on Tuesday. Well, I was wrong I did not have anymore time. I was to busy tring to create my homepage.

Week 2 assignment was much harder that the last assignment. Doing the first part of the assignment was much easier that the others. I thought that the Bookmarker can be very useful for future use. The hardest part was sending a document through e-mail and saving and image. I thought that I got kind of close to saving an image, but I did not have enough time. I hope I don't run into too much problems for the next assingment. I think the most important thing that I shouldn't do is repeating the same mistakes over and over agian.
