This weeks task was extremely difficult for me. I thought that I
would have a slightly easier time with our Week 4 assignment because we
did most of these in our previous task. According to my ratings I think
that I did not try as hard as I did in the past assignments. In my past
ratings I rated myself with nines or tens but this week I gave myself and
eight. I think that I did not work as hard on it because I had other
things on my mind. Instead of being concerned with finishing my Psy 409
assignment I was concerned about studying for my quiz and exam coming up
this week. I think that this was my fossilized error. I will explain my
constant mistake later in this report.
Well as you can tell by now I didn't enjoy this week's task
because I was unable to accomplish it. We needed to do a lot of things
in Week 4. First we had to copy a students file form Generation One into
our CSS directory, then we had to get into our UNIX account and ftp over
to our CSS account and copy the file we selected. The next task was to
download the file to our diskette. Later we had to upload the file to
our UNIX account then log into out CSS account and ftp the file. We
later had to view it in emacs, pico, and Netscape.
Each subtask were similar, basically we had to save a certain
file in different areas. In the first task I selected a file ffom
Generation One. The file came from Jolene Lai. I opened pico and gave
the name Lai. Then I went back to Lai's home page and highlighted it and
pressed copy. I went back to pico and pressed paste. Within a few
seconds Lai's report was on my screen. I exited out of pico so Icould
save it in my CSS directory.
My next task was to get into my UNIX account and ftp my file to
my CSS account. I logged out of pico and got into my UNIX account. As
soon as I got my account (uhunix:/home/3/rcortez) I typed ftp
www.soc.hawaii.edu. I finally realized that I was suppose to type in my
CSS account and the password. Duh!! At the prompt that had ftp> I typed
"get Lai". I'm not sure if I did this correctly. After that command I
went back to UNIX and typed ls -al and it gave me a list of my files, and
Lai's report was on it too.
p The next subtask was to download it to my diskette. I went on to
pine and then I pressed File and slid the highlighter to Log File. Then
I changed the directory to "a" because my disk was in drive "a". I gave
it the name Lai. I pressed save after making sure that everything looked
okay. As soon as I pressed it I could hear the disk moving, so I assumed
that it was saved. I wanted to make sure that it was there so I went on
to file again and change my directory to see if Lai was listed in
there and sure enough it was. Now this is where I goofed. I did not
modify the file because I did not finish reading the sentence for this
subtask. I did not notice it until I was at the very end of the
assignment and it said "you should now have two files". Oops!! I did
not know how I could get back to it and modify it. Wee, I guess that I
could have but by this time I was getting very frustrated, because of the
other tasks.
The third subtask was to upload the file onto my UNIC account.
Without thinking that it was already in my account I just did it again.
I remember that we were assigned to do this task last week. So
immediately I looked in my Week 3 Report and copied every single step. I
got out of my UNIX account and clicked on to FTP. This is where the
screened titled FTP appeared I typed my profile name, user ID, password
and Remote System. It was very important to type in the correct profile
name annd Remote System. I remember that I had a lot of trouble with
that last week. After logging in the correct data, I pressed okay and
the WS FTP screen appeared. I changed the directory to "a", and it
immediately listed the files in my disk. I highlighted Lai and pressed
the arrow pointing right. My file Lai went directly to the reomte
system. If i had modified it, this would have been my second file in my
CSS account.
My last task was to view it in pico, emacs, and Netscape. I was
successful in viewing it in all three, but emacs gave me a hard time.
Every time I looged into emacs I could not exit by pressing control c.
Instead I had to go under the file and press Exit which completely took
me off of my UNIX account.
I feel that I have committed so much fossilized errors this
week, but I will metion one that I think was the most troublesome. When
I was at the CLIC Lab on Sunday I shouldn't have thought about my other
classes. I constantly thought that I should not spend too much time on
the computer because I had to study for my quiz and exam. Well later I
thought tho myself that I would have to find some way to balance my
studying, because this won't be the last time that I will have two tests
and a report due too on the same week. I guess the only way to overcome
this fossilized error is to try and finish one of the assignments before
the other so I can get it out of the way.
This week I did not feel very successful. If only I was more
careful in reading the directions I could have accomplished every single
task.
Hopefully, in later task I will read the assignment carefully.
This week I was not able to finish the whole assignment because I did not
do it correctly. I also hope that in the future I can finish my Psy 409
assignments toward the end of the week so I can study for an exam during
the weekend. It's not guarantee that I will be able to do it, but I will
definitely try because I hate to stress out like this.
