Report For the Health Related Internet
For this week, I was interested to see what I could find on the internet on the subject of anabolic steroids. The first search i used utilized for my search was excite. I typed in my query and ran it. Excite returned 17 links related to the subject of steroids. Links such as the S & K labs which specialize in steroid alternatives, weightlifting home page, and an interesting link that explores the topic of buffalo meat, and how it is supposed to be good for you (don't ask me what this has to do with steroids. I'll explore this link next week.) You could even order it online!
Interested to see if this company had some kind of wonder drug to replace steroids, I clicked on to the S & K labs steroid alternative link, and found a company that basically sold over the counter products such as weight gainers, energy boosters, stress releasers, and so forth. For the sake of interest, I clicked on to a link called increase muscle mass, and found an add for Dibencozide, which is a supposedly highly effective weight gainer.
Concerning the document, I found nothing that I expected or wanted to see. I was trying to find something that had to do with steroid abuse, but this particular search engine had none. So I decided to try another engine.
Want to find a particular search engine? The best place that I know where you'll be able to find it is either in Lori Morita's or Reylinda Cortez'es home page. I was able to find the search engine Find-it on Lori Morita's week 7 report, and did a search on there. find utilizes various search engines on the web, and for my particular topic I used the Yahoo engine. When the results came back ( there was only one link), I was surprised to find the same exact link ( S & K labs) that I had seen previously in excite, plus 4 other links. The links were titled with topics such as the body building link, entertainment link, natural alternatives to steroids, and a person named Larry Winger.
I decided to click on to the natural alternatives to steroids link and found something similar to the S & K labs link, another advertisement for supplements. They had similar products to S & K labs.
All in all, it wasn't a very interesting search for me. I couldn't find what I wanted to find, which was the topic of steroid abuse. I kept running into dead ends, or should I say "dead ads." It was interesting to utilize different search engines though, and use something I hadn't used previously. I think it relates to technophobia, because I tend to get very comfortable when something is successful, and tend not to explore outside of that realm. Now I am starting to!
