The art of Iyengar Yoga
Using Yahoo, I went in search of a health topic concerning physical exercise. I clicked on to the health link, then to the fitness link. There, a whole variety of topics could be found from weightlifting, to basic health and fitness. I clicked on to the topic of Yoga, and was directed to the Iyengar Yoga homepage. On there was links concerning the basic principles of the group, scheduled listings, and route to other Iyengar yoga establishments.
Interested to see what I could find about the group, I clicked on to the sublink "about Iyengar Yoga " and came up with some basic principles concerning the group. Iyengar yoga puts an emphasis on improving the dynamic precision and alignment of a person through classical yoga postures, to increase stability and concentration. Inner-self principles are also emphasized, and according to the document, many have benefited though the use of Iyengar yoga. The document also states that it is choropractivally recommended for scoliosis, Carpal tunnel syndrome, sports injuries, arthritis, and other physical anomalies.
I found this document easily readable, without all the Indian jargon that I was expecting. The document also emphasizes that Iyengar yoga can be used for the beginner, as well as the experienced. However, the descriptions concerning Iyengar yoga was somewhat brief, and they seem to cater to people who have the ability to get to their centers which is based in San Jose, California. Schedules and times are linked in, as well as fees and a map of how to get there. Despite the fact that they have books and videos available, I personally see it as a waste of time to attempt to learn anything on a video cassette. I would want to be there in person to make sure I get the best results.
As far as its usefulness to Social psychology goes, yoga is a practice that deeply involves the mind, and its connection to the physical body. It seems as if one must have a basic understanding of his or her self before venturing into the practice of yoga. Yoga isn't only beneficial physically, but mentally as well. Maybe if everyone in the world took up yoga, the world would be a better place.
Although it was brief, I found this document interesting because I always had an interest in the realm of meditation, and its various forms. Maybe this summer I'll take up meditation for summer school!
