Week 7: Report For the Health Related Internet

Using Yahoo, I clicked on to the fitness link, and found another link called the FAQ, or frequently asked questions link. Curious to see what I could find, I clicked on to it and found three subjects related to health and fitness- abdominal training, adaptogens, and stretching and flexibility. I never heard of the term adaptogens before, so I decided to click on to its link. It led me directly to a definition-- adaptogens are biologically active substances found in natural herbs and plants which help the mind and body adapt to the changes and stresses of life. According to the document writers, these substances are natural, and safe.

Further down, the document goes a bit more in-depth and discusses research done on these substances by the name of Dr. Brekhman. He has supposedly been researching adaptogens for over 45 years, and found many benefits from adaptogens. Benefits such as improved mental and physical work capacity and endurance, stronger immune system, improved capability to cope under pressure, helps to overcome the affects of damaging substances, normalizes bodily functions, improves coordination over time, and the list goes on.

Another question it answers is where one can obtain adaptogens. I was expecting to see different herbal plants and so forth, but found two products called prime 1 and prime plus which supposedly contain the beneficial adaptogens. All of a sudden, instead of being an informative document, it was an advertisement. I was kind of irked at this.

All in all, the document was informative and easy to read, yet it seems as if the person who wrote this didn't do any type of spell check. As far as psychology goes, this could be related to the foot in the door technique; I read on until I found the product!!
