For this week, I decided to a search related to adaptogens, and its herbs. I was interested to see what I could find on the topic of marijuana , so I used Yahoo and ran a query on the topic of marijuana. It then led me to a series of links pertaining to the issue of marijuana which included pro legal groups, medical findings, and basic information pertaining to the herb.
I clicked on to a group which called itself NORML, or the acronyms standing for the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws. I was interested to see what NORML was about, so I clicked on to one of the links called NORML's mission to get a deeper perspective of what they were about. NORML supports privacy, individual choice, and freedom for the personal use of marijuana, and is against laws that infringe on these rights. However, NORML does believe in regulating marijuana strictly to adults, and condemns driving under the influence of marijuana. NORML also believes in decriminalizing marijuana for personal use, and advocates a system of regulations that would include age restrictions, public health, and agricultural controls.
The document also discusses the taxation of marijuana, and how it would raise large sums of money for tax revenue. They also believe that regulation is the replacement of prohibition. You can join NORML though the internet, and buy merchandise from them also.
Overall, I found this document to be very readable, and militant in their quest for pro legalization. Their statement are also very well backed up, with links to government studies concerning the issue. I personally didn't think they were serious, and though they were just a bunch of druggies trying to get marijuana legalized. But as I read on, I found them to be a well organized coalition, with a genuine interest in individual freedom.
Concerning psychology, most of this document is backed by strong sources, and strongly convinces the reader that the government is infringing on people's individual rights. This in turn makes the reader militant, and is given the opportunity to join them.
