For this week, I decided to expand on my research of marijuana. I went back to yahoo, and ran the query "marijuana" to see what I could find. I came upon the listings I had previously, but found an interesting link called "marijuana as a medicine." I decided to see what this was all about, so I clicked on to it and found another series of links. A lot of the links had to do with court cases, but the one that I found most interesting was called "smoking to live" which was aired on CBS's Sixty Minutes in December of 1991.
In the document, it discusses a man and his wife whom are among 14 people in the U.S. who have been prescribed marijuana by their doctor. Both individuals have the aids virus, and the marijuana they smoke somehow suppresses the nausea that they encounter from the chemotherapy. it also gives a little background about how they used to get it illegally, and so forth.
All in all, this document was easy to read, and comprehend. It seems as if this document is basically a transcript from the show, because of the way it is formatted. It gives direct quotes from the people, and the interviewer. Personally, I think it's better this way; you are able to directly read what the people said. There are no middlemen to change it.
As far as psychology goes, it is possible to say that what some people believe is wrong, others may think otherwise. Yet the bottom line is, marijuana is a contraband in our society.
