Week 10 Team Report

Alternative Health Care

This week I did my report a little bit differently. Instead of doing a search on one of the search engines, I started off with an address that Nitsa McCarthy gave to me for the World Wide Wellness home page and I just netsurfed from there. I actually went to tons of links from here and got quite a bit off track, but I will only tell you about the ones pertinent to my topic. From the World Wide Wellnes page I clicked on Other Wellness Resources, and this led me to a listing of links to other sites concerning Specific Healing Modalities from Acupunture to Osteopathic Medicine. Because there were too many links than I had time to put in my report, I only included one from each major type of alternative healing. My purpose in doing this report is to help those who are interested in seeking alternative health care treatments seek answers to their questions about the different kinds of alternative health care available.

Traditional Acupuncture

This page is done by a woman who is a licensed accupuncturist and what I like about her page is that it's simple and easy to follow. She addresses basic questions such as "What is acupuncture?" as well as questions about how to find your own acupuncturist. There's also a section on the types of ailments that can be treated by acupuncture, so if you're looking to treat a specific ailment, I would look in this section first to make sure that your ailment is treatable. If this page does not answer all of your questions about acupuncture, you might want to check out either The Acupuncture Homepage or Acupuncture.com. Both sites will provide you with more information about acupuncture as well as provide links to other sites related to acupuncture or alternative medicine.

From the link to Massage Therapy under Specific Healing Modalities, I went to the Indexes and found the Complementary Medicines Home Page and clicked on a link to Alternative and Complementary Medicine Practices where I found links to even more types of alternative types of medicine than were found from the World Wide Wellness Page, so the links from here on out are from this page. I'm not going to go over all the different links so if there are other types of alternative therapies that you are interested in that I haven't covered, you might want to check out this page.

Aromatherapy

I have two great links for you that are complementary. The Nature's Gift Guide to Aromatherapy will tell you about what aromatherapy is, how it works, and how to use the aromatherapy oils. There's also a full listing of the types of oils that are available through the Nature's Gift Company. If you want to know what oil will do what, look at the Sun Angel Glossary of Herbs and Aromas. This index is very comprehensive and easy to use. All the links to the different aromas fit on the screen so you can look at all of them at a glance. Want good luck in love? You might want to try Jasmine. Or how about protection, relaxation, and healing? Lavender is the scent for you. If you are open minded and want to try something fun and easy, check out aromatherapy!

Bach Flower Remedies

I had never heard of this before stumbling upon it while netsurfing. This is an interesting approach to treating mental illness. The Bach System consists of essences made from 38 different flowers. Each remedy has a specific action upon a certain mental attitude. This way there is a remedy or combination of remedies for any kind of mental disorder. The Bach remedies are not tranquilizers, which just allay symptoms without dealing with the causes of the mental disorders, like most orthodox chemical medicine does (some of the remedies, though, have strong tranquilizing effects, but they work in a quite different, and positive way). Conversely, they attack problems at the root. Just as our body has its own self-healing properties regarding diseases, wounds etc., our mind and spirit have their own self-healing capacities (actually these things are deeply connected, but that is another story). The Bach remedies stimulate these processes in a natural way, thus creating a true healing of the disorder, without side effects of any kind. I liked this page because it offers information on a unique approach to mental illness and lets us know that there are natural ways of healing. The page also lists the various flower essenses and what they are used to heal. At the end of the page, there are places where you can write to to find these remedies in your are, and the e-mail address of the guy who published the page in case you have any questions.

Homeopathy Home Page

This page is meant to be a starting point to guide you to other links concerning homeopathy. If you aren't sure what homeopathy is, you might want to check out an essay on What is homeopathy?. This essay is very easy to read because the authors divides the topics into sections and uses vivid icons to make the essay look aesthetically pleasing. For a more detailed but less aesthetic essay on homeopathy, check out the Homeopathy FAQ.

Reiki

I'm sorry to say that there weren't too many links to this subject, but there were two. Both were essays giving a general overview of the subject. The first essay, Reiki Natural Healing is a little more comprehensive, so if you want just a brief overview, check out the second essay, Reiki: Advanced Tool For Healing and Spiritual Acceleration. These two essays did not cut it for me, so I did a search on Internet Search and found The Reiki Page which is much more comprehensive than the other two resources. On this page, you can find information on: History of Reiki, Principles of Reiki, Charging for Reiki healing, Using Reiki for Healing, The Reiki Symbols, The Reiki Attunement Process, and a Book Review on Essential Reiki. If you are searching for a reiki practitioner in Hawaii e-mail me, and maybe I can hook you up with one.

Well, I wish I had more time, but for now, these are all the resources I came up with. Maybe next week I'll add more links so stay posted!
