Week 9 summary
This week on the topic of marriage I found a new search engine called Galaxy. This is a wonderful search engine because it is very informative and allows you to many options on how to do your search. This search engine has the title of the link to your topic, an excerpt that brief explains the link, frequently used words in the text (how many times a word appears in the text), an outline, the source (address), type, entered (when it was created), and indexed. This proved to be very efficent in searching topics that are broad because it lets you narrow it down to all searches, just the title that have your topics in it, or links about your topic. It was wonderful because I did not have to look through useless links that had nothing to do with marriage. It gives a percise listing without excerpts when you search through links.
My first link that I choose was Fatherhood and Fatherlessness. This article covers an area that is not commonly mentioned in society. There are not that many single fathers when compared to single mothers. These men are learning how to raise children on their own without a partner and this article offers guidance and support for this minority. The article covers a wide range of topics that concern fathers. There are articles on parenting tips, articles and commentary, fatherlessness, studies on the effects and prevalence, welfare and anti-father views. These articles offer advise and support for this group since there are not that many out there for them.
The second link that I went to was Elementary, My Dear Watson!Love and Marriage = Horse and Carriage This article relates to the areas of marriage. The first part talks about the beginings of marriage and what to expect. Here is an excerpt "There are a variety of visages to marriage. Love, children, friends and common interests are some of the fivers keeping marriages together." The writer then talks about health, happiness, sex, children, in-laws, and "till death do us part." This article came from the home page of The Dream Machine, which I found to be extremly funny and is included in my Interesting Finds in my Topical Index. This essay reveals a man's opinion on marriage and what to expect in a marriage. I thought it was fun reading it and there are certainly a lot to learn before and during marriage.
Many people do not realize the hard work that goes into a marriage. I think that the young soon-to-be married couple have so many things to learn that they may find married life hard. Some couples rush into marriage because they get caught up in the whole idea of the "togetherness," the love, and the passion that soon these once ideal emotions stop and things change between people. Perhaps, this is why there is a high divorce rate among the young adults. Well, this article explains the ups and downs in a marriage and like the title says "marriage = horse and carriage." Once you're married you are not an individual but a pair that will be together forever.
