This team report sent me off to the land of the rising sun. No, I didn't really go to Japan but I wanted to see if there was any software out there that would allow me to write HTML documents in Japanese.
I first went into Lycos and typed in the query "Japanese HTML." the list that I got was very short and not very helpful so I went back and typed in "Japanese."
This list was much longer and I found a link called Japan Related Web Links: Japanese Conversion on Computers. There were many links on this page but the one that I was really interested in was called How to use Japanese on Internet for PC. When I clicked on it, an outline of the "how to" text was presented with a link to the actual text.
I found out that the main thing that you need before you can do can even attempt to do any kind of Japanese conversion is the Japanese version of DOS called DOSV or the Japanese version of Windows called WinV. If you want to download the required software, just go to Hideki Hirayama's Home Page. he says that he has all of the updated files there. He also has another Home Page and an FTP site.
Because of my "amateur" status in computers, the instructions seemed a little out of my comprehension capabilities but I did catch on to some of the things that he said. Basically what he said was that in order to view and write in Japanese you have to have some kind of Japanese based software and converters. You still won't be able to view it on American designed software but you will be able to view it by switch from one system to another.
As far as writing HTML in Japanese is concerned, he said something about using a Japanese language converter and write it in notepad or the the Japanese version of Microsoft Word.
