Section3.

This week's assignment was to look up your topic using two or more search engines. The search engines that I decided to use were the Excite Netsearch, Webcrawler, and the Lycos Search engine.
The main reason that I chose these search engines was due to the fact that I tend to use these the most. Oh yeah, I almost forgot to tell what I was looking for ...It was "HTML Tricks" for my group reports.

The Excite Netsearch for - html tricks.
Excite gave me a list of ten choices, of more than forty, that they thought best matched my query. In this case, excite was was right on. Every site that was listed dealt with the initial query. I probably should have requested a more detailed summary but it just happend to slip my mind. But even with the limited summary, they all appeared to match my description.

The Webcrawler were mush more of a bare bones type on list. No summary or short synopsis just the clickable titles of 25, out of a possible 648, sites of possible interest. There were a couple of multiple listings, I checked them out and they did lead me to the same place, and a few useless, dare I say clueless, links that had absolutely nothing to do with the query.

Before I go on any further, I'll bet that you're thinking to yourself, "So when is he gonna show us the good links that he found?" Well here's your answer. I'll put the links at the end of this report with the search engine that was used in ( ) on the side.

The search that I did in Lycos was a bit of a disappointment to me. I used the "match two words" and used the "strong match" helpers but there were only two sites that were listed and they both pointed to the same place, The Planet Access HTML Page.
Since I also used the "verbose" output on the first run through I tried it again this time using the "normal" output. But alas, no difference.

Here is the list of cool tricks links that I found:

I sure hope that this list can help you, and me, build a better Home Page.

As far as thej assignment goes it was pretty simple. Just a little more time consuming than usual. There were no real problems or negative emotions to speak of. The knowledge that can be gained is invaluable. ( Hey, my company said that they might want me to put up a Home Page for them at one of those free home sites like the ones found at The Tropics. ) I think that I might be getting pretty good at all of this and my satisfaction with the computer and Internet is fairly stable. I am having a little problem with my computer going bonkers though. Sometimes it just wants to do it's own thing and I have to go back and check all of my work. And last but not least, yes I tried hard to complete this assignment.
