Section3.
Thanks to an illness that had me pretty much down and out, I was not able to attend class last week. I asked some of my fellow classmates about the homework that was to be assigned for this week but to my surprise everyone that I talked to, actually it w as e-mail responses, said that there was no homework assigned for this week. Of course it didn't occur to me to ask or send e-mail to Dr. James until now, which is too late, so it looks like I'll just have wing it from here. Wish me luck!
Well for starters, this week's tasks were pretty difficult. Because there was no real assignment given, I didn't really know what to look for. I did most of my searching on imagemaps for my team report 13 but since my informati on is already there, it's best that I not write about it here.
The negative emotions were riding high this week because I just could not think of anything special or significant to do on the Web.
Any information that I find is going to be valuable and useful as long as it's creative and not destructive and/or harmful.
With all of the new search engines and search options available, I should be getting good at surfing the internet.
I'm still having a few problems with my Winsock program and there are quite a few dead links around other people's pages but all in all I'm pretty satisfied.
Being ill this past week and still having to work, no money no school, left me little time to spend on the computer. I felt that I needed much more sleep than usual, I average about 4 to 5 hours of sleep a night, so I didn't stay up too long. This was d efinitely not one of my better efforts. I guess I could call this week's task, things that interest me.
I consider myself a fan of Star Trek. Not an extreme Trekker but a fan just the same. I decided to see if there was any thing new on my favorite Star Trek spin-off, Deep Space Nine, so I went to the Excite Netsearch and typed in Deep Space Nine.
For those of you who have never watched Deep Space Nine I'll give you a little history on the show. It all begins when the United Federation of Planets takes over an old, abandoned space station that is located near a war-torn planet named Bajor. It is rebuilt to act as a sort of way station for all space travelling beings within the galaxy. It' main mission is to protect and watch over an amazing discovery, a sub-space wormhole. ( It's like a shortcut to the other side of the galaxy. ) There isn't to o much exploring but there are a lot of interesting things going on in and around the station. I know that for a lot of Star Trek fans, Deep Space Nine is rather boring because they're not out and exploring strange new worlds etc...but I rather like the personal interactions that go on between the crew and the visitors that arrive at the station. There are actual plots that can be worked into the series and also a few recurring themes and personalities of interest. That's my opinion so it doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks. Anyway, back to what I found.
I found a site called Deep Space Nine Press Releases and decided to click on it. I'm going to try something that I found out while doing my team report #8. if you want to go to the page, just click on the image.

I hope that this works. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
I sure am glad that I chose this site. It had all of the pertinent information that any DS9 fan could ever hope for. I found the air schedules for season 1,2,3, and 4, previews of new episo des, the title sequences for this season, a quick reference guide, the Nielson ratings of all of the episodes, cast photos, the Deep Space Nine Home Page, links to other Star Trek and Sci Fi sites ( Including Star Wars. ), pictures of the USS Defiant ( Their own version of an at tack warship. ), and, thankfully, my personal favorite, the
While I was looking at the "other sites" list, I decided to look at the Quantum Leap page. ( This is another one of those shows that I really liked. ) The information that I saw there was not all t hat great but it was still pretty informative and interesting. FYI: If you don't know what Quantum Leap is all about, it's about a brilliant scientist named Sam Beckett who invents a machine that allows you to travel back into the past within your own lifetime. But when he tries the machine, he ends up leaping into people, he assumes the person's look and part of his/her knowledge and personality. The only way that he can hope to find his way home is to undo things that have gone wrong in the pa st. Each time he accomplishes his goal, he moves on to the next person hoping that the next leap will be his leap back home. He does not do everything on his own though. He has a holographic image of his friend Al who tries to help him do what he needs to do. Does Sam Beckett ever go home??? I'm not telling if you don't know. I guess you'll just have to watch the series to find out.
One more interesting note about this Quantum Leap Page. When I got to the bottom of the initial page, this is the e-mail address that I saw: patten@lumchan.ifa.hawaii.edu
Now is that a surprise or what!
Those are just a couple of the many interesting things that I had found out there in cyberspace. I hope you enjoyed them.
