Section 3.

The second time around was a little harder than expected. Surfing around the Web was easy enough, I don't think that anything has changed since last week, adding and viewing the bookmarks was simple enough, and then came the problem.

It was not a major problem, it was just that I did not know how to save a picture from a site. I thought that I would try to ftp it but that did not work so I swallowed my pride and asked the person who was sitting next to me. She said that all I had to do was hold down the right hand mouse button and a dialog box would appear and after that it would be simple. So I tried it and she was right.

The mailing part was another story. It seemed like no matter what I did, I could not get Netscape to mail anything to my e-mail address. I went to different sites, chose the mail command from the file menu, filled out what I assumed was the necessary "paperwork" and tried to send it on it's way. But lo and behold the same comforting message kept on returning to me like the swallows returning to Capistrano. "DNS server not found......." I did not have any ideas. ( Neither did the Clic lab "help." ) I tried time and time again but still no results. So I did the cowardly thing, I GAVE UP!!!

Hopefully I can eventually figure out how to do it but for now I am an e-mail from Netscape cripple.

Back to happier times, this is one of this images that I decided to download. I decided that I needed a little some thing to make me feel better so here it is:

I also found a great hockey site. It's called the Hockey Goalies Home Page. So if you want to check it out just click on the "G".

Speaking of negative emotions, didn't I just mention the little bit of frustration that I went through. Well, that's the only really negative thing that happened. It still annoys me, but I shall overcome!!! (Or die trying...not. )

Since the tasks were basically similar, I considered it as extra practice. And as everyone knows, practice makes perfect. ( Or at least pretty good.) If I ever get that e-mail fiasco out of the way, it will become very useful because I will be able to send information to myself without actually having to print up the document right then and there. I know that the bookmarks will really save me time if I want to see something that I liked.

Like I said earlier, practice makes perfect. ( Although I did have another Psychology professor tell me that only perfect practice makes perfect. )

So far so good. The only reason that this question got a poor rating was because of the e-mail thing, and also the slow computers.

For this week's tasks I tried really hard, with the limited time that I had, all the way until I gave up. There is only so much distress that a person can take. Or as Popeye said, "That's all I can stand and I can't stands no more!!"

Aside from the saving of the picture to a temporary file and e-mail a message to yourself the tasks this week were pretty much the same. Thanks to the bookmarks, I will be able to access my favorite places a lot quicker now.

Again, I do not really know if you can call these fossilized errors. I followed the instructions that were presented to me on the screen, gave them my correct e-mail address, but still no results. Am I doing something wrong? When I asked a few of my classmates how they did theirs, it sounded exactly like what I did. In this sense, I felt extremely lacunae. Maybe I will just let it rest for a little while, be a little nicer to the computer, and maybe I can get on it's good side. :)

What do I need to do about it? It looks like I'll have to try to make time so I can talk to Mr. Bogan. I'm going to keep on trying different things for awhile until I can figure out a set time. Hopefully I can make a lab. That way I'll be able to see it up close and personal. E-mailing him would be good, but it would take too long to get an answer if I messed up again.

As I learn more about the available search engines, the results that show up are a little better than the previous weeks. There are fewer off the wall listings than before and now with the help of the metacrawler, I should be able access a larger variety of sites that may contain pertinent information.

Conclusion:

Thanks to the introduction of the metacrawler, there are now even more search engines that are accessible to the users of the World Wide Web. Hopefully that will also help to decrease the amount of time that we have to wait because of the popularity of the search engines.

Resolutions:

I am hoping to get my roommate's computer up and running so I can use it to access Netscape from home. We shall see after Wednesday, because that's when my friend Kevin is going to come over and look at the computer. Better keep my fingers crossed.
