Section 3.

Writing this report feels very good right now. I was finally able to copy a generation one file into my CSS directory. Remember how I wondered why I always got the file not found message, well I finally realized that it was not the fault of the computer, this time, but it was a really stupid human error. Dr. James always reminds us to take very careful notes when doing the assigned tasks and now I know why. During the previous four weeks I have been trying to get into a file that really does not exist. The basic rule in class is, " it's not my fault. " But this time, this rule did not apply. For some reason or other I have not been copying down the right address for the generation one files. Instead of /leonpsy/psy409a/(name)/(name).html, I have just been typing in either 409 or 409a after leonpsy. Instead of trying to change the psy409a part of the root directory, I was only changing the name directories. One full month of utter stupidity. YIKES!!!

Once I was able to get the file over, the viewing and modifying part was a piece of cake. I "borrowed" Kyle Fujii's Home Page. I first looked it over, corrected a few spelling errors, and then added some address extensions in the anchors in order for it to work properly from my directory. I also added a picture background to the first part of his page. I hope he doesn't mind. If you want to see it, click HERE! Pretty easy stuff. It was just like making changes in my own Home Page.

I also just figured out how to use the copy command in pico. This makes adding links and other repetitious items extremely quick and easy.

If not for the feeling stupid part that I had encountered earlier, I would have given this section a little better score than the one that you saw there. I do not think that anyone would consider feeling stupid a positive but who knows, there are some strange people in the world.

As far as value is concerned, any extra practice that I can possibly get in writing HTML is extremely valuable to me. I get to see what kinds of different things and techniques people use in order make them more appealing and maybe incorporate them into my own Home Page at a later time.

This is a definite small step for man, and a giant leap for Curtis. I don't really know how good I will actually get but this is finally starting to come together.

Along with the discoveries of new knowledge comes the feeling of satisfaction. Although this is not total satisfaction, it makes me feel a lot better about the weeks to come. The computers are still moving quite slowly but I am very sure that it will all change.

Because of the fact that I was able to actually complete, I mean fully complete, a task showed me what I could do if I really focused in on what I was doing. I must have been " in the zone " because I was able to figure out most of the things that had given me so much trouble in the past. Hopefully I will be able to continue to give this much effort in the weeks to come.

There were no major differences in the sub-tasks for this week only the acquiring of new knowledge.

For this week, there were quite a few fossilized errors due to the fact that I was still getting the hang of the new knowledge. The errors consisted of mainly typing errors and command errors. No real feelings of being lacunae. Well, maybe just a little feeling until I get a firm grasp on the system commands. The king is dead, long live the new king.

Progressions and developmental changes, I have quite a few of them. I was able to obtain a lot of information that allowed me to complete previously incomplete tasks. Also, the realization of how much effort I needed in order to keep up with class. That included careful note taking, concentration, and memorization. I also see a special trend that I think that almost everyone is developing, the need, or want, to improve his or her own Home Page.

Now that I am finally starting to get caught up with the class it should be relatively smooth sailing from here on. I am beginning to catch on to all the ways that each system works and my ability to use them is also on the rise. All I need now is my new computer. After that, I will be ready to rock-n-roll.
