Section3.

This weeks task was fairly simple but very tedious. It involved the expansion of my topical index. I had to attach a lot of name tags to the important areas of all of my reports, both weekly and group reports, as well as making links to the Generation One and Generation Two students. It wasn't that hard to do, but it sure took a long time.

No negative emotions to talk about this week again. Just tired eyes, a tired body, and an overloaded brain.

All of the work that I do now and that I will do in the future will be greatly enhanced thanks to the knowledge and information that I have gathered. This week's tasks showed me that although it is fun to look at Home Pages over the Internet, there is a lot of work involved and I can appreciate other people's work a lot more.

I hope I can say that I'm getting pretty good at the HTML writing stuff. I know how to do most of the basic stuff, I just need to get a better grip on how to do the more advanced stuff.

With the new computer in tow, I can honestly say that I am really enjoying myself. Everything goes along much faster and the multi-tasking abilities are greatly increased. File tranfers can be a little slow at times but my friend Kev in Jung told me that it has to do with the server that I am connected to not my computer.

Since I do a majority of my work from home, sometimes it takes a long time before I can get hooked up. Because of that fact and the fact that there is only a limited amount of time, I think that I tried very hard to complete this task. The first thing that I did was to download some freeware to help me to put up my postings faster. I downloaded HTML Assistant, and an rtftohtml conversion program. The HTML Assistant works really well. It allows you to click the tags that you want to use and allows you to set up the desired link, anchor and image addresses. It takes a little bit of time to type in all of the desired addresses, but once you do, it becomes a lot easier. you just have to point and click rather than type. This helps me because I am basically a two finger typist.

The rtftohtml was not so good. I thought that I nad followed the directions properly but I guess not. I think that I will eliminate that program from my computer. Now back to this week's tasks.

I hope to add a background to my topical index page. In fact, I found a whole bunch of nice looking backgrounds in a place called Chris's Backgrounds. There' s more information about this in our week 9 group report.

I am still in the process of adding the links to the generation one and two students and hope to be done very shortly. If the info is not there yet, pl ease be patient, I am editing the file at home and unless I get hooked up in time, I won't be able to upload it into my file. The links to areas within my reports should be done soon. It takes a bit of time to think of a name and then remember what it w as when you're making the link.

Again, no visit from Mr. lacunae. I did have quite a few fossilized errors though. Thankfully these errors were minor, albeit stupid, ones. They mostly consisted of forgetting to change some of the names and/or numbers when you cut and paste links and anchors. I tend to add in a whole bunch at one time before editing so there's bound to be trouble.

In order to try to rectify this situation I either have to be more careful and attentive or I have to be a little more meticulous and finish the link or anchor before going on to the next one. What a dilemma!

It seems as though I'm getting more comfortable each time that I get on the computer. My technophobia is in partial remission and it doesn't take me quite as long to finish a task. My typing isn't getting any better but my knowledge of the Internet and it's language and systems is.

Conclusion.

First off I would personally like to thank Dr. James for getting on my case and keeping me going when I was falling behind. If it wasn't for that, I might not have ever caught up.

Thank You Dr. James!!!

Now that I am getting to know how this is all put together, it seems like I can never do enough to improve each and every page. It's almost becoming an obsession.
