Learning the Internet:
For this first week, our group just concentrated on familiarizing
ourselves with a few things. The areas that we looked into were Netscape
Assistance, netscape handbook, and Usenet discussions.
Netscape Assistance is an area where the user can get help on
performing certain tasks. To access this function, it can be found on
the home page of Netscape. There are four subject areas to choose from.
Additionally, there is a brief history of the internet, potentially
interesting and helpful sites, and other helpful information.
The Netscape handbook has a special button to access it. This is
where the features of Netscape is explained in full detail. There is a
tutorial section to look at before getting started. There is also a
reference section that contains the explanation of menu buttons. Then
there is the index.
Usenet discussions can be accessed through the Net search. All
the user must do is select the desired subject and click on it with the
mouse. Once in the Usenet discussions, there are an uncountable number
of discussion groups. Almost any subject one can think of can probably
be found in a discussion group somewhere.
The Netscape program is very user friendly. We found it simple
to get started and to explore the different subject areas. It seems a
bit overwhelming at first because of all it has to offer, but we think
that we'll be able to learn much from it. In almost every field of
study, you can find information about it on the internet. This can be
very useful for people doing research in social psychology. It can be very
useful to everyone and anyone who wants information.
