Section 3:

I found this week's assignment similar to last week's assignment. It was to take a file from the Generation 1 psychology 409 class and to modify it. In order to do this, you have to know how to ftp the file onto a floppy diskette. Using ftp on a PC is very simple, as I have talked about in week #3
. Because we have already used ftp to do a number of other functions, it was good for practice.

The subtasks were all linked and each step followed one after the other. All of the subtasks were very similar. Most of them required using ftp. The only thing different was to modify the document. To do this, you can use any word processor. After this is done, to upload the file into UNIX you need to use ftp again. Similarly, to get the file into the CSS server, you can use ftp. This is why I think that the subtasks did not have notable differences between all of them.

As for my fossilized errors, I did not note any specific errors. I took my time performing each function so the errors I made were few. I also did not make any repeated lapses during this assignment. Again, if you take your time, the errors will be less. I did not have an inadequate feeling when I was using ftp. I think that now as we have used it a few times before, it has gotten easier and I am more used to using the program. I notice that I can now do things in fewer steps than it took me in previous weeks.

If this progression continues, I hope to be using these features to make my home page "nice". There are so many things that people do to spice up the looks of their home page. I think that ftp is very handy for putting things you can't find in Netscape into a home page. Using ftp has almost become second nature now and I am hopeful that other functions will also become second nature. I suppose now that they have made these programs so user friendly, more and more people will catch onto the internet fever.

I find it so true that the internet is addicting. Trying to learn how to put up an aesthetically pleasing home page can take weeks or months to do. Once you think the home page is done, in terms of its looks, you think of or see another home page with something that you like. Pictures are a good example of what can be constantly changing on a home page. I know that within these few weeks since we started putting up our pages, I found literally thousands of pictures I like. Some of these are not from the internet and need to be put into my account through ftp. I must admit though, pictures are much easier to upload than text. I say this because with text, you need to transfer the format of the text. With pictures as long as it is a gif or jpeg once it is uploaded into the account, you don't have to do anything but put it into the location of the home page that you want it .

Aside from what we had to do this week, I am finding it fun yet difficult to "play" with the looks of my home page. The reason I say that it's fun is because there are so many possibilities as to how you can make a home page. The style, the colors, the pictures. I can spend hours just finding pictures to use. Then the next thing is to decide what kind of layout I want. As you can see on my home page
, I have not yet to even put up a single picture or change any of the looks that significantly. The reason for this is why I say it is difficult to "play" with my home page. Why you might ask? TIME! First it is so hard to make time in my schedule to use the computers in school. So, I try to use Netscape from home. What happens, you might ask? That seems like it is simple enough. WRONG! Try getting into the pearl line anytime after 6:30 PM and before 2:00 AM. It is nearly impossible. So if it takes me a while to get my home page looking "special", please be patient.

Since this week's tasks was not a something new, I found it good practice for using ftp. I think that one of the reasons I felt very confident about this week's task was because it was a review. My resolution for this week is to try and put more time into working on my home page. I would also like to know if there is a list of codes for html. Not a whole instruction manual, but something more like a quick reference. Just to show the codes for basic things like how to change font size, color, alignment, things like that. If anyone knows, I would appreciate a tip, just click at the end of this document.

I suppose that's it for this week, so until next time, that's all folks!
