Section 3:

I looked through the generation one files to find a student's directory that I liked. To be totally honest, I think that there are some much better home pages in the generation two files. Because we know how to copy documents from Netscape into our CSS directory, I did not find it difficult to look at the html format of the person's home page. Instead of choosing a home page from generation one, I chose one from generation two. I liked Christine Kealoha's page because she found out how to change the color of a page. I tried looking at her html format of her home page to find out how she changed the color. I now know how to do it, but I did not change my colors yet. This is a neat trick to know because changing the color a page can make it stand out from the rest. Sometimes though, people have chosen colors that make the text very difficult to read.

There was basically only one task to do this week. This was to take a home page and copy it to the CSS directory. Then looking at the html file, selecting areas of the page I liked and to use it in my own home page. The hardest part of this task was to chose which page I liked then trying to read the file and know which part made the color change. Besides that, there was no other task involved this week.

My fossilized error and my repeated lapses went hand in hand this week. What I keep on forgetting is that when there is a section that I like, I can just copy and paste it into my file. I guess I'm from the old school and I think that I have to retype everything. I notice that I am constantly doing this. Like when we put our link for people to write to us via e-mail, I keep on typing the entire code over and over again. Then halfway through typing, I think, so stupid, I could have just copied it and pasted it into the new file. The main thing that I have to remember is that I can copy and paste. I think that I keep forgetting because I haven't used this feature extensively before and I forget there is such a function. At least now I remember to copy and paste some of the time. In the past, I would never remember. Now almost 75% of the time I remember the easy way of copying something. I am happy about that. I can just imagine all the time I have wasted by retyping things.

I notice now that we have been getting used to looking at the html codes, I have an easier time figuring out what code does what. In the beginning, I could not tell which code made the bullet at the beginning of a line. Or how to put an image in a certain place on the page. Now that a few weeks have gone by, I think that I have progressed and am able to figure the codes out quicker.

In future weeks to come, I hope to learn more codes on how to beautify my home page. There are so many possibilities, it seems endless. I think that no matter how long I spend adding things to my home page, it will never be complete. There will probably always be something new I see from another person's page that I would like to copy. The question is, is there really any point in time that a home page is ever complete? I think that answer is no. It is constantly being changed and updated.

An example of how much home pages can change, is if you look our generation two files. In the beginning of the semester when we were first learning how to write in the html format, most of our pages were quite plain looking. Now, just a few weeks later, many people have found neat ways to spice up their pages. I am sure that there is a point where we reach an asymptotic level and can no longer improve our pages. But that doesn't mean that we won't be changing them in some way, even in small, insignificant ways.

My resolution for the coming week is to get more information on html codes. I would like to find a way to make my home page stick out. A page where when people look at it, think wow, that's pretty neat.
