The semester has gone speeding by and all that we have learned from taking traffic psychology has invaded our body, our mind and our soul. Throughout the past 15 or more weeks I have searched the internet much like the other members of our class, diligently and efficiently (well most of the time anyway) and have found tons of information as super highway junkie. For my last search I decided that I should remind everyone of the importance of traffic safety and all that one should know.
To complete this last search I looked into my trusty excite search and found a page on ãWhat Every Driver Must Knowä. Pretty appropriate huh? Well, this particular section is one of many. There are sections on skills, laws and safety, substance abuse, and signs, markings and signals.
This section however really caught my eye, because of the insightful words contained in the very first paragraph. It says: ãEveryone need to be concerned with traffic laws, courtesy, and safety. If you are a younger driver, your skills may not be as well developed as experienced drivers. If you are middle-aged, you may have grown overly- confident about your driving abilities. If you are an older driver, you may have many years of experience on the road, but aging impairs some abilities needed to drive effectively, such as vision, hearing, attentiveness, decision-making skills and your ability to react.ä
I think this paragraph sayâs it all. We all criticize eachother, but we must also remember that every one had room for improvement. The rest of the link discusses ways we can become better, safer drivers, one is through driving skills programs. In these programs individuals much like ourselves learn to be more cautious in bad weather, to be courteous of pedestrians as well as other drivers and to watch for emergency vehicles. All kinds of tips are provided, some even for those who drive motorcycles instead of cars and trucks.
Bottom line is that we are all drivers of some sort. We drive cars, trucks,
motorcycles, bicycles and we even drive ourselves. Safety is important in all arenas and
the well being of others is often in our hands. Remember, we share the roadways with
many people, try looking out for the next guy instead of always yourself first.
