Up until this week I have found comfort in the Info Seek Search. Reluctantly I decided that it was time to broaden my horizons. What did I do? I did a search using Lycos. I decided to dry off and get out of the water for a while. Therefore, I looked up topics involving air traffic control. I found some interesting links, one that even had sound,Air Traffic Controllers Live in Stereo.
The first link that I browsed through was the Terminal Air Traffic Control Automation. I found this to be both interesting and informative because I never quite understood the responsibilities of air traffic controllers. In this link it states "the task of air traffic controllers is to create a safe and efficient flow of aircraft to all the available runways while still optimizing the overall flow of aircraft's".
Another link was to the Oceanic Air Traffic Control Automation. What this is is an organization formed to help "maintain and improve services for air traffic control". Presently they are attempting to upgrade their ODAPS (Oceanic Display and Planning System), this will add capabilities to the already existing system.
These groups as well as many others are very important to traffic psychology. Granted in this instance we find ourselves looking at driving behavior, air traffic controllers have a tremendous job trying to direct traffic in our sky. By working towards a more advanced means of controlling air traffic it reduces pressure on people and causes a lower turn over rate. By reducing stress drivers and controllers are more tranquil and clear in thoughts and decisions.
In actuality when it comes to landing a plane, pilots are not as essential as air traffic controllers.
