Team 6: Week 9 Report

At last a week I haven't used the same old net search Instead I have moved on and started along the path of a new search. It is called "EXCITE", and it surely excited me. I found tons of information to entice my wonders.

This week I typed into the computer non-automobile traffic and I found so many links to anything and everything involving traffic. I even found a link to Dr. James' home page. the link that I decided to pursue was called Critical Mass. I'm not so s ure how many people know exactly what it is from the name, but I did, thanks to the wonders of MTV and their program the Real World in San Francisco. for all of us who have watched MTV and know all about Puck, Critical Mass is nothing new. He was a part icipant in this monthly event that actually started in London. In actuality the motivating source for Critical Mass is an "active campaigning against the car culture". Great huh? It's a way for bicyclist to reclaim the road way for about a half hour ev ery month. This act allows participants to enjoy the pleasures of living in a motor-free zone.

This program has been going on for about a year now. In London the numbers have reached 250, but even more astonishing the numbers have reached over 1,000 in San Francisco. This link is incredible exciting. One should also check out the Cars, Cars, Cars... link, or better yet Critical Quotes of participants and bicycle lovers.

On another note, bicycle enthusiasts should check out alternative bikestyles and the Global Cycling Network. These links include info on living in an automobile-free world and other cycling home pages. Check it out.

Try to imagine a world free of cars...instead, tons of bicycles flood the streets. Less traffic? Healthier world? Safer streets? Not necessarily...you think? Braden Kato's Week 9 Report
