Steve Shimizu and a nice "lililok"
The night Steve caught this fish is one I will never forget. He had
gone fishing with his friend, Roland Flores, and he said he would be
returning at around midnight. That guy didn't get to the house until 5 a.m.!
He really had me worried. I was about to call the Coast Guard before he
finally showed up.
When he finally showed up, I was ready to really let him have it. But
then he showed me the cooler they filled with fish and my anger quickly
dissipated. How could I stay angry when they had caught so much fish?!
Anyhow, the fish Steve is holding is what we call a "lililok". I took a
look at our fish charts and discovered that the English name for this
fish is a "yellowlip emperor". I prefer "lililok".
When on Guam, we try to fish as often as possible. Guam's surrounding
waters are filled with all types of ocean life. Check out Steve's
cousin, Shawn Eustaquio, and his catch.
My Dad's beach is a great place to fish as well as dive.
If you don't dive, I suggest you check out my underwater photos. They might persuade you to
try it out!
