The article I am presenting this week is entitled
Molson Indy Vancouver-Race Guide Index
At first, Lycos gave me just the Tentative Schedule of Events as a link when I searched for car culture activities.
It looked like it didn't have any real links, but I checked the Home Page anyway. That's when I found the index for the racetrack at Concord Pacific Place. You can ask for 1995 Ticket Information, which will give prices. There is a link for event sponsors, what the track's volunteers are doing, future races, and even a history of the track itself.
What was really interesting to me was the link "It's More Than Just Racing".
"The MOLSON INDY VANCOUVER AT CONCORD PACIFIC PLACE is one of North America's top weekends of motor racing and Vancouver's most exciting event of the year... But the Molson Indy Vancouver is more than just racing and here's the proof: The ShowPlace, located inside of B.C. Place, is a three-day consumer show with free admission for all Molson Indy Vancouver ticketholders... The Action Zone!, located in the ShowPlace, features wild and zany activities. There will be a nominal charge to participate, with proceeds going to the Alzheimer's Society."
This is more than just a car event with its own following, it has a purpose. It is for the family, an event for participation and that will help people. It is relevant to car culture activities because there is more to this event that just a car race. It includes a whole set of people and events that revolve around it. And those who enjoy car racing can particiapte in events that are associated with it and that help others.
The activities include:
Putting Challenge
18 holes in 1! Test your putting ability as the hole changes configuration 18 times to complete an entire
course.
Racing Bar Stools
Negotiate a course of bar tables and other obstacles while driving an electronically powered bar stool.
Gladiator Duel
Duel it out like the American Gladiators and force your opponent off the platform with an authentic foam gladiator stick.
Sumo Wrestlers
Suit-up in huge, over stuffed, "Sumo" costumes and enter the ring for a traditional "basho" of pushing, pulling, grabbing and tripping. The winner is the first to force his opponent to the floor or out of the ring. An amusing entertainment for spectators and the "wrestlers".
Funky Boxing
Battle your opponent in a bouncy, air supported arena with oversized boxing gloves.
The Bungee Fun Run
Strapped in a bungee harness, run as fast as you can to reach the end of the course before the bungee sends you flying backwards.
The Bouncy Castle
Something for children, an air filed dome for kids to go inside and bound and play.
The Space Ball
A gyroscopic, space simulator which has the participant in a seated position. Surprisingly, no dizziness or loss of equilibrium is experienced.
Scream Dream
Fasten your seat belt and prepare for a truly moving experience in this hydraulic, motion theatre.
And the list continues...
