The article I am presenting this week is entitled
"Martin Pinker recalls some rare moments from a recent road trip he and his old school buddy, Pete Phillips, made to find the music of Tennessee. Enroute, you'll find some interesting links to explore."
For this report, I used Metacrawler. I didn't think this article was going to be very relevant at first, but after reading it and seeing how many links this document had, there is a car culture activity going on here, and there are instructions and directions on how to do the same activity. Road trips are one of the great American pasttimes, and Martin Pinker and friend do it the old-fashioned way. Martin is from the U.K., but he is more interested in Tennessee than I thought I was.
It is a funny article, with links to Elvis Presley and whether or not Elvis and Jesus are the same people, Nashville, where they visited Loretta Lynn's Kitchen, and the Johnny Cash Museum.
They go to Memphis, different diners, and experience
"...a liquid brunch at Gilley's, where we had our first taste of live country music. This generally consists of a single performer, with a large reportoire of taped accompaniments. Passable entertainment, certainly satisfying the large majority of the early afternoon's audience. I make two requests of my favourite C&W numbers: "When You Leave Me, Walk Out Backwards, So I Think You're Coming In" and "Take your Tongue Out of My Mouth, I'm Kissin' You Goodbye." Neither were known at this particular session. We were however, encouraged, by our lovely line dance instructor,to return later, between 6 and 10 pm, for the Drink or Sink session - for $5.00, all the beer you can drink."
Doesn't everyone want to take a road trip and do things they've never tried before? And maybe have a liquid brunch too?
