Report # 9: Alt-Trans

For this week, I decided to continue my search with my favorite search engine, Webcrawler. I typed in the query "Car Activities" and scrolled down the list of returns until I saw one that interested me : Alt-Trans. Alt-Trans is the Washington Coalition For Transportation Alternatives. It is a group that believes that people deserve a better quality of life which means that they deserve to breathe clean air, live in vibrant and healthy communites, more parks to relax and play in, swim in clean and healthy water, bike or cross a street without risking their lives, etc. They think that if we tackle our transportation problems, we will reduce accidents. Traffic accidents kill around 40,000 people in the U.S each year and seriously injure 500,000. The main point of this page is to inform the visitor of the many alternatives to driving your own car and lets the visitor become more aware of the things that cars create besides more accidents, like pollution and traffic.

I think this is a great idea and I also think that maybe other states should become more involved in trying to change the amount of traffic and accidents on the roads today. I feel that if more alternatives were offered here in Hawaii, I definitely would use them. I know there's the option of catching the bus, but sometimes that type of transportation just doesn't work for many. I think a public carpool service should be implemented so we could reduce traffic and accidents.

It's usefulness to traffic psychology is that with less cars on the road, there is less chances of an accident or bumper to bumper traffic. For more insight on week # 9 team report, please refer to Letitia or Jason.
