1. I was warned as a child of 13, not to act too strong
  • When she leaves childhood she must accept a new set of norms, intimidating her in a grown-up world
  • 2. Try to look like you belong but don't push girl
  • It is necessary to be conforming, so repress feelings that wouldn't be acceptable to society

    3. Save your time and trouble
  • Your interpersonal relations may exhibit negative results so save yourself from that problem by not trying

    4. Don't misbehave
  • The individual should assume the attitude of the collective group for what is right and wrong and do what is right
  • 5. I was raised in a "No You Don't World"
  • Depressing environment, not condusive to growth or social interaction
  • 6. Overrun with rules
  • Behavior settings are too tightly bound. Negative stimuli
  • 7. Memorize your lines and move as directed
  • Role theory - others expectations elicit how you are going to act and react to given situations
  • 8. That's an age old story, everybody knows that's a worn out song
  • Outdated ideas that people suspect are wrong for that time zone, but may cling to tradition in a Cupboard theory fashion. As security when they are uncertain
  • 9. But you and I are changing that tune
  • The "You and I" is social validation, a relationship that is believing the same thing and working toward an equal goal; change
  • 10. We're learning new rhythms from the woman, I said the woman in the moon
  • Using interior dialogue and relating oneself to a higher being. Spiritual self

  • Similarity, identification

  • Use your unconscious motivation to keep striving

    13. Don't believe a word about things you've heard about, askin' too much too soon
  • Develop a high level of aspiration and your motivation will anticipate your awards

  • Natural restrictions

  • Breaking free from the conformity, roles and intimidation. Wanting character enoblement

  • Positive emotions, open mindness

  • Usually opposing forces. But can be put together so that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts

    18. Recognizing change is seldom expected
  • Must become consciously aware of the world, and accepting to change

    19. As I long suspected
  • Where the persons interior dialogue never totally accepted societies ideas

    20. They believed that strange was a word for wrong
  • A delusion, that which may seem abnormal doesn't mean that it is wrong

    21. Well not in my song
  • Individual cannot accept society's views, so listen to own interior dialogue
